Illuxcon Day 4

Hi Valentina, I plan on doing some tutorials on this very thing here in the near future! For now though, I’d say that the big ones for me were of course the obvious ones like crocodiles, horned lizards and Komodo dragons. However I think there are a lot of other less well known ones that are just as interesting and offer even more value for drawing dragons. Emerald bush vipers for scales, monitor lizards for body types and musculature, red iguanas for just about everything, and boas for interesting jaw structures and coils. I also think it’s worth it to study larger birds like harpy eagles, vultures and condors because they have interesting faces, eyes and bone structures that help when trying to draw fantasy creatures that would hunt from above. The number one for me has probably been crocodiles though. We have a alligator reserve near where we live and they have some amazingly huge crocodiles there. Every year we go and do some life studies of them and I have always found them to be excellent subjects for dragons.

Hi Justin, I have a question for you. If I wanted to learn how to draw dragons, what animals would you suggest me to study first?
