the quest for a fuckable squid design

so the last species from brilliant's universe that i called out as existing were squids, and BOY was it hard to settle on a design i liked for them! the colored ones are where i settled on, and the extra sketches go backwards to where i started with them. the only things that i described in the book were big black eyes and tentacles from their heads, so those were my design limitations. i knew i wasn't going to make them just people shaped tentacle havers, and i didn't want them to end up Too cute, or Too animal-like.

i'm gonna call them the absicola. they're another primarily aquatic species like councilman somato and the malacos, and make use of the same anti-grav technology found in the cuffs dr. lindon uses with brilliant. they also might make use of bodysuits like somato, but they've evolved in such a way that they're still very functional without them. they can't speak out loud, instead only able to communicate through flashes of light on their skin, sign-languages, and electric signals. absicola are very commonly seen with kacatui (the bird species, like dr menura) serving as interpreters.

i still have to design an actual Character to represent the species in the story, but!! i finally have designs for all of the aliens!!
