Someone's made a bargain.

It's October again, everyone, and that means it's time for our spooky borough! This time, Borough Bound is bringing you two one-shot adventures set in a liminal, spectral, purgatorial realm known as The Other Side. Our first one-shot is a murder mystery aboard a paddle steamer. Can your party figure out why this riverboat now traverses a river of damned souls? And what will they do when they find out where the boat is truly headed?

NOTE: We're tackling two Other Side releases in October, and then we'll be back to finish up Wresyck Junction in November.

Borough Guide

Our borough guide for The Other Side 01 concerns the riverboat Radiance de Rosalie. Five passengers, two crewmen, and the party find themselves embroiled in a supernatural murder mystery. A preacher has been slain, and at least one person on this boat wants something beyond revenge. We provide you everything you need to run this as a Halloween one-shot: NPC descriptions, potential motives, tables for determining the murderer, details about every room on the ship, and synopses to streamline this adventure. If you want to get really crazy, roll to see who the murder might be... and check to see if it ends up being one of the players!

Maps

Our main map this week is Radiance de Rosalie, the once-opulent paddle steamer that now slowly travels downriver through the Other Side. You'll definitely want to run crazy combat encounters on the deck of the ship, but you'll also want to explore the surrounding bizarre geography. We want to make sure you can run this adventure however you want, so we provide a bunch of variants: Lava, Winter, Mississppi, Desert, Crashed, Post-Apocalyptic, Pleasant, and Just the River (i.e. no ship at all).

Our interior cartographer Matt really went to town on this one. We've got the entire interior of the ship in full detail: the cargo hold, engine room, passenger cabins, salon, kitchen, crew quarters, and pilot house. Look, if you're going to run a frantic murder mystery, it's best to do so with all of the rooms at your disposal. As always, our interior maps are only available for our Chief Courier tier patrons.

Please note that the interior maps are pretty hefty files, so we had to include them in a separate zip file.

Music

For this faux-Louisiana setting, we've got some faux-Louisiana music. Dirty Deal is bluesy Cajun music with a bit of a devilish twist. Banjo, guitar, fiddles, washboard, triangle... there's no doubt about what sort of people you're investigating on this here riverboat. Throw this on during the frantic parts of the investigation. For quieter moments, put on the pared down Trio arrangement.

Radiance de Rosalie Minis - Collaboration with Paper Forge

When we were first conceptualizing this setting, we knew it'd need a whole bunch of quirky character. We immediately tasked our friends over at Paper Forge with envisioning some of the stranger beings the party will encounter aboard the vessel. Paper Forge made printable minis and VTT tokens for use in Radiance de Rosalie adventures. Those gatorlings are cute, and the devil Le Douanier is certainly an elegant chap you wouldn't want to cross.
