been a little preoccupied with practice over the past couple days.. a lot of it is simply too uninteresting to post, unless people really want to see me fall flat on my faces trying to draw animu faces a couple hundred times in a row. anyway, was watching some older digital painting tutorials and kind of reacquainted myself with this oldskool rendering style. you basically just go dark to light doing as much as possibly with the airbrush, building up to brighter values and harder edges as you go, then you go in and hit the occlusion shadows. very sculptural style. this was every where in like 00s concept art. kind of just drawing random shapes and seeing what happens, not really thinking too hard about anything. gonna experiment with doing basically the same approach with more textural and painterly brushes at some point. will probably be a minute before these ideas make it into the rendered commissions, but we'll see. overall it's been very fruitful to just practice my weak spots, doodle freely and experiment a bit. feel like it's starting to pay off even though I don't have a lot to show for it in terms of like, content atm, but i went over that last time.
