A side effect of Belle confessing her love to the beast just as the enchanted rose's final petal fell.
At the end of the film, we saw that the spell was broken and Prince Adam returned to human form. While living their 'happily ever after', Belle wanted to show Adam a more humble life so he may relate to the little town he will influence as a soon-to-be king. However, the spell that bound Adam to a beast form seems to be more 'cracked' than fully broken, as Belle's confession was simultaneously timely and late. Prince Adam continues to suffer transformations into a beast form and back, challenging conformist town's acceptance of him. The little town may yet learn to show compassion for those who are different or be destroyed by the lingering magics of a merciless Enchantress.

We need to have a Shrek moment where we confess our love... but we become a Beast with them, showing that this is who they are - strong rulers of a new kingdom. And gay because yeah. Though I could see Adam having 'WereBeastism' that triggers like the Hulk. Though would it be contagious...? :3
