24 hour exclusive - Should Game Designers Listen to Player Criticism?

Hello! New video

So, I wanted to do a  video about DOOM Eternal's contentious Marauder enemy and how developers should respond to player criticism. It was supposed to be a quick video, but ended up ballooning into a pretty huge project.

There's so many links and sources that they don't fit in YouTube's description box, so I'll have to put them in a pinned comment when the video launches and comments are turned on!

Anyhoo, lemme know what you think. I'd be a bit hypocritical if I didn't listen to your feedback and consider all suggestions, after all ;)

Good stuff. Only warning. with flashing lights and neon arrows: people with disabilities are by definition a vocal minority, and it's not a good reason to not listen to them. No matter how niche their problems might be. Features for them can (and are) also appreciated by those without those disabilities. Plus, they tend to be a vocal minority in appreciating the accessibility features, which is good!

You know what I hate? This entitlement of modern so called gamers in getting games fixed/improved after release. There is no gratitude about getting free updates and about the fact that modern developers put In so much work in games post release. We'll I grew up with Nintendo and you know what? A game was released back then and that was it. Bugfixes? Nope, FREE add-ons? Nope. In no other industry the artist does stuff like that? Songs ppl don't like don't get changed after release. Paintings don't get changed. Movies don't get changed. Well in gaming, even Board games don't get changed FO FREE... well OK, the logistics of free board game content update would be a bit tricky 😉. There is one game on the N64 named Space Station Silicon Valley. In this you can find hidden Golden items. Get all of them and you get a different ending or sth. Well guess what, there is one item you can't collect, a golden faucet you walk just right through, and to this day this never got fixed... Bottom line, be grateful, the devs dont owe you anything!
