GameClub 6 - Pick our next game!
Added 2017-11-24 16:38:08 +0000 UTCWelcome back to the GameClub!
Each month, we play a game and chat about its design, story, development, strengths, and weaknesses, over on the GMTK Discord channel.
But first, we need to pick the next game. Here are your options, and they’re all currently on sale on Steam so you won’t have to spend much cash to participate.
What do you want to play, and talk about? I’ll be back with the winner, tomorrow.
LISA

An Undertale-style RPG, with comedy, weirdness, and heartache. It’s utterly bizarre, but those who have gotten into the game sing its praises. Will we dig it?
LISA’s on PC, Mac, and Linux
SOMA

A spooky walking simulator from the team behind Amnesia. It starts a bit Gone Home, and then goes a bit Alien Isolation. The story is incredibly well praised, but it might be a tad spooky for some.
Good news, then, that the game will get a “safe mode” (which deactivates the monsters) in December. A prime chance to talk about developer intent and whatnot.
SOMA’s on PC, Mac, and Linux, it’s on PS4, and an Xbox One version’s coming next month.
Gunpoint

A “stealth puzzle game”, and the first game from Heat Signature developer Tom Francis. Playing as a freelance spy, you will rewire office buildings to cause mischief and mayhem among the guards.
We can talk about the systems-driven design, and even use the in-game developer commentary to see how the game was designed.
Gunpoint’s on PC, Mac, and Linux, and there’s even a demo.
Comments
While they are all very good games with very good stories, LISA is most definitely the only one that will tell a story in a way you didn't think they could be told

2017-11-25 15:03:46 +0000 UTCGunpoint for victory!

2017-11-25 02:50:42 +0000 UTCGuess I'll finally join the GameClub, cause all of these are in my backlog. Don't think I have a preference so I won't vote.

2017-11-25 02:15:56 +0000 UTCI don't know if you intend to do so, Mark, but it would be fantastic if you took the impressions of GMTK community who played, along with you own notes and do a video for the game played.

2017-11-24 17:53:05 +0000 UTCA superb storyline, definately going for SOMA as my choice as well. And yes, it still creeps into my brain on occasion as well.
2017-11-24 17:42:40 +0000 UTCLISA and SOMA would both equally delight me and have enough meat for healthy discussions.
2017-11-24 17:06:30 +0000 UTCTwo guys above me says SOMA and Gunpoint, so I'll promote LISA! Macabre and hilarious, with a bunch of horrible death and choices in a postapocalyptic world inhabited by only men. Undertale made you feel fuzzy inside, LISA makes you feel /dread/.
2017-11-24 16:54:11 +0000 UTCPlease go with SOMA guys. It's one of the few games that I still think about on a regular basis. One of the best sci-fi stories in a videogame.

2017-11-24 16:48:31 +0000 UTCGreat selection! <3 Been wanting to play all of these games for a while (Replay Gunpoint in this case, but dev commentary is gonna be hype), so this is going to be fun!
