Eisoptrophobia
“I never really liked you,” I admit to the reflection
[We have a sordid past, this creature and I. It’s not always been a pleasure to know one another. Historically, this relationship could have used much more kindness but, alas, there was no grace and the taste became slightly sour]
“But I’d like to get past that” we said in unison.
So we set a few goals and worked very, very hard - using each other for help this time.
And because of that conversation so many years ago
I’m no longer afraid of mirrors.

That I would measure instead: Joy - in the subtle dance of my diaphragm. Connection - in the widen open gate of my chest. Pleasure - in the drumbeat of my belly. Beauty, oh yes beauty, in the mirror if my lover's eyes and lips and touch. I have polished her You might say. To give me only what she is meant to A reflection. Everything else is mine.
