Game Reviews #4 [Immortality, The Bunker, Night Book, Maid of Sker]

Immortality - Worth it, weird, and tough to explain. The premise of this game is you "scrub" old footage to reveal new footage "hidden underneath" and see what's really going on in the plot. Once you get the concept, things start to click and you're off. This game is best played with some hints [to get your bearings] but try to avoid spoilers. If you liked Obra Dinn, this has similar vibes [a bit less taxing on the noggin tho]. The story takes a couple too many twists for my liking but it's very surreal and creepy. If you like the vibe of Twin Peaks, this game comes closer than anything I've ever played [weird sex stuff included]

The Bunker - This game surpassed all expectations. It oozes with low-budget charm. The plot is pristine [when you get to the end.. damn]. Can the acting be a little better? Honestly, I don't care. Somehow it all fits. The equivalent of a B-horror film that also scares you. Highly recommend. Can play in a couple of sittings. A fun touch of player agency right at the end.

Night Book - we also had a ball with this one. Probably best played in 1 or 2 sittings. Once again, has that B-horror vibe so the flaws are sort of forgiven with the style. Very linear but choices do matter. I believe there are quite a few endings. This one creeped NJ out :)

Maid of Sker - Technically an FMV, I guess but doesn't look it. Sadly, a bit of a miss for me. The story here is absolutely marvelous - would make for a wonderful short. It also helped inspire [slight spoilers] my pirate audio. The execution didn't quite jive with me. I don't think I'm much of a survivor/horror fan tho [the sense of danger can so quickly shift to frustration]. Wasn't a huge fan of the performances in this one either.
