The Highwayman [CW: emotional] [plz read body of post]
Added 2024-11-06 20:02:40 +0000 UTCIf you're not familiar with this poem, I suggest skipping this one. I'll do a more traditional reading of it later on. I cry [a bit passionately] so be warned. It can't really be considered a "happy" poem.
This [version] is more of a guy [me] working thru some shit who happens to be reading a poem. I have mixed feelings about posting this but I am trusting that everyone needs something different and hoping this reading will do something for at least a few of you.

2024-11-07 20:27:49 +0000 UTCThank you for this. I remember this poem from the Anne of Green Gables series, but had forgotten it. Hearing it as an adult now, oof, it hurts. And hearing it in your voice, hearing and feeling the pain of knowing we are all Bess. Well, bless you for this. It means something, OK? It means a lot. Thank you for leaving it raw and true.

2024-11-07 05:18:06 +0000 UTCIn my head, this is one of my thunderstorm poems. It is always captivating but also it consumes. It hurts. It is too close. But I can read it now and I’ve just learned that I can listen to it in full again. Thank you for your reading, your voice. Your emotion and heart. This [version], this guy working thru some shit. Thanks for sharing him too 💜

2024-11-07 05:09:14 +0000 UTCThanks for sharing in the communal vulnerability. This poem always reminds me of Anne of Green Gables/Avonlea miniseries from the 80’s. Anne does a dramatic recitation of it to an audience, including her crush Gilbert Blythe.

2024-11-07 03:30:24 +0000 UTCThank you for just posting the stories and poems. I need these. I dont have any family and my friends all live far away in different states now. These keep me company.

2024-11-07 02:51:32 +0000 UTCThough today hits differently if you’re part of a targeted group, I know plenty of men who are stunned and emotional and trying to find ways to comfort. Thank you for being one of them. I picture you NJ and Flynn talking together. How’s she doing? I’d known of the poem only as a tie in to cheesy Afterschool movies. Certainly hits differently as an adult. And hearing you read it hits harder still. One of your moms favorite poems? I want to know so much about this fascinating woman who raised this son…if you ever want to honor her with your storytelling we’d be honored to hear about her💜💟🫂
