Prompt 14
Added 2024-11-10 20:14:37 +0000 UTC[Write a poem about your last meal using couplets]
In a garden apartment below the ground floor
Was a shabby ol' palace they called "Elsinore"
Most nights you find that the Doctor was in
And mornings were always for coffee with Flynn.
Broke were the artists who lived on this lot
but thank all the gods for Trader Joe's tots.
Two buck for two pounds it was really a treat
sometimes we'd add chilli sauce [spicy and sweet]
A cheap cut of meat that was pounded out flat
And bacon if we had it [to add to the fat]
Jalapeños were perfect to give it a kick
and a sunny-side egg would finish the trick
These days, I add chives and the salsa's homemade
but other than that, it's mostly the same.
"Tot Maddness" we called it - that shit's still a winner
Go ahead, ask NJ - we just had it for dinner :)

A big breakfast starts the day, With sunshine on a golden tray. Pancakes stacked in syrup’s embrace, Butter melts at a leisurely pace. Crispy bacon, sizzling delight, Golden toast with a perfect bite. Eggs scrambled, with a bit of cheese Store bought juice to make it a breeze. Hash browns crispy, golden brown, Breakfast feast, a morning crown. Coffee steaming, a morning brew, Fuel for the day, tried and true. A hearty meal, a morning treat, Big breakfast, joy complete.

2024-11-11 18:50:56 +0000 UTCAh Trader Joe’s - as Canadians we’d trade 10 Timmies for every one they’d open north of the Border. ( I mean, I totally would, anyway). Every time my American friends come up they’re armed to the teeth with TJ’s Peanut butter cups and Everything But The Elote blend. In Vancouver I believe there’s a store call Pirate Joe’s where they actually resell TJ’s products….

2024-11-11 15:18:03 +0000 UTCA quiet day, I don't feel like cooking I settle on cereal, after some looking Cut up strawberries, a little past best blueberries, banana, is there room for the rest? Shredded wheat, a big pour Whole milk, a splash more A larger spoonful of sugar than some recommend But fuck it, I want it, there's none here to offend

2024-11-11 12:34:39 +0000 UTCTot Madness sounds scrumptious! Love the description of Elsinore. Imagining Yorick as keeper of your spice rack. A little girl dug her tiny hands into rich loamy earth Plucked potatoes and carrots and lettuce with mirth Watched her kitchen wizard father with flame, pan, olive oil Conduct alchemy for eager tummies with these dear gifts from soil The summer of 9, she saw a fish hooked by an old bear of a man Who was gentle and reverent to girl and trout from river Raritan He cleaned the trout and cooked it over an open wood fire With potatoes roasting for company and lemons cut prior Butter and salt and pepper, plus chimichurri to taste An adventure of tang and herb on crispy warm flake With lettuce from that hardworking little garden at home The meal still lingers in the way that sense memories roam Nearly 20 years later, such fish is a splurge For the woman with tighter pockets, but the occasional urge And cooking for others is among her greatest delights So, for a last meal, turn back the clock to those riverside nights With plate polished clean, belly full, and heart warmed She strips to her underwear, dons baggy tee for a ritual well formed She sinks into the sofa as the stereo both lulls and enlivens And tastes music on her tongue as dreams crest her horizons

2024-11-11 06:39:08 +0000 UTCThey say chicken soup is good for the soul But I need something stronger to make me feel whole I don’t need the card, recipe’s in my heart But Abuelita’s handwriting, feels like a loving start Tonight calls for Sancocho, a Caribbean stew Fills my house up with my family from New Jeru Beef stew meat, chicken thighs, Calabaza, garlic and corn on the cob Green plaintain, yuca, yautia, sofrito, olive oil and beef stock Sprinkle in the seasonings, measure “con el corazon” Stir it all together, dance around while you sing your favorite song We shared stories, laughed, ate sancocho, the healing Caribbean stew Seems like they, very much like me, needed to feel whole too

2024-11-11 04:23:06 +0000 UTCI don't like the pressure of planning ahead, At the end of the work week when I'm feeling dead, So I told my good friends as I boarded the train, Go ahead eat without me But they made me explain: I eat lunch at ten thirty when all my kids do, So I'm hungry again starting round two, I grab a quick snack at the end of the school day, But bodega treats don't do the job in a good way, So at 5 I head for Chinese veggie mei fun, Now I'm boarding the train at 6:51. I've no interest in eating I've loudly exclaimed but you've set me a place I politely complain. I pass on the pork, on the wine, on potato Then I see the string beans and laugh cos we all know I have no resistance to skinny string beans Blanched and quick sauteed with sesame seeds, some sesame oil we knew you'd eat these One friend smirks, one guffaws When I ask Some more please?

2024-11-11 01:15:12 +0000 UTCGirl Dinner In the Mid West was a Cali girl having a rough day She dove into creativity to keep the blues at bay In the darkness of 5:30pm a hunger arose. Did she eat earlier today? No one even knows Shopping was set for tomorrow and Her cabinets were nearly bare. “What am I going to eat tonight?” She thought as she played with her hair. In the fridge were leftover potatoes so she put those in a pan She added garlic and onion now forming a plan Some pesto pasta leftover from the last meal she ate Then some cheese and some ham were added to the plate. And then the potatoes saving the best for last Some wine? Oh no, it’s grape juice that she poured in her her cobolt blue wine glass Though chaotic it seemed it sure was a winner. While Watching Law & Order SVU she enjoyed her Girl Dinner

2024-11-10 21:43:46 +0000 UTCA sandwich I made, grilled it for myself From all the items I had on my shelf The bread, it was sour, a dense chewy slice Flavors did not overpower, the contrast was nice The cheese she was tasty, a very smooth melt (Tho maybe a Swiss might’ve been better, I felt) The turkey towering high, it was shaved thin, For spice, jalapeños were tucked safe within No mayo on this, the dressing was pink Sweet, tangy, zesty, Thousand Island, I think. We waited too long, so at twelve o clock I started to assemble, my hunger unlocked The sounds were quite grumbly, my stomach in pain, I absolutely must have it, cravings I can't restrain Time for the griddling, toast her up good To get that nice crunch, 'use butter?’ ‘I would.’ The moments drag by, wait for the pan to heat up, So I busy myself, seltzer poured in a cup The finishing touch, Iadd chips to the plate A dill pickle spear, I barely can wait She rests there a queen, golden, crisp to the touch I watch the steam rise, I want to eat it so much I tell myself I must wait for a bite (Except, should I try it? Oooh, I just might!) The tiniest nibble, just a small nip, Right there from the corner with my front teeth I'll clip Bad plan, abort - Ow! My tongue she does burn I knew I should wait (I won't ever learn) My impatience is legend, cannot wait a short time When I am hangry, there's no rhythm or rhyme The triangles, they tempt me and now it is cool, My dinner is ready, my mouth starts to drool. I wouldn’t risk it, bon appetit, I say Yours is right there, now get outta my way.

2024-11-10 21:43:24 +0000 UTCI’m afraid it’s not a meal that I want Today it’s two things; black coffee, croissant Flakey and butt’ry, bitter to balance Clean up the crumbs (cause that’s how you get ants) So I lounge in my robe, licking my thumb I don’t count the cal’ries, that’s fucking dumb You gotta enjoy life, snack or a meal Take care of your health but eat what you feel

2024-11-10 21:37:17 +0000 UTCI wrote what can best be described as a rhyming doodle sitting by my Mum's hospital bed. It's pretty bad poetry and my mind was on another type of last meal altogether. If one day I should lie at the last I wonder how I’d break my fast Which earthly delight Would paint my day bright Which heavenly feast Would gladen the beast Enough and just so That gladly I’d go Into my last day And be on my way To the place where I won't eat again To the place where there’s no one that can. So it’d better be good Be my favouritest food. Be it chocolate and wine, Avocado and lime, Be it sushi or steak Or perhaps rhubarb cake. One last meal just for me, And then let me be. Because tired I am, And there is no one that can, Stop the way of all things Hear the beat of the wings As it’s my time to tell And to finish my spell On this earth where I’ve loved life so well.
