Prompt 24 [16 is next]
Added 2024-11-24 18:37:08 +0000 UTC“Yellow is here to see you, sir.”
I blinked twice at the intercom before responding. “Do you mean a Mr. Yellow? In any case, I don’t have anyone down for-”
“No, sir. Just yellow.”
Not sure how to respond, I opted to blink some more.
“Like… the color”
“The anthropomorphization, I believe” said the intercom.
“Okay, um… send them in?”
I heard a buzz and a click and I watched the handle to my office door turn. Before me stood my arch nemesis - yellow. The cowardly bastard actually showed his face. I couldn't believe it - but I didn't have time to question my reality before I had to flip my desk and use it as cover from yellow's barrage of razor bananas.
"Not today you bastard!" I shouted, razor bananas falling all around me and hurling insults at me. They were so specific and mean.
I needed to get to my filing cabinet. I knew there was a deep mixture of blue in there that was so pure, I could turn that fucker greener than lush meadow. Yellow gave up on the razor bananas and was shooting a concentrated beam of sunlight at my desk to start a fire.
"Sunlight is golden!" I shouted, plotting my path to the deep blue.
"Subjective" I heard in the voice of a hundred lemons.
I darted forward and the cabinet fell. I grabbed the top drawer and took a domestic canary to the thigh. It hurt, but the skin wasn't broken. The canary was pissed but didn't know who to be mad at. The canary never thought they would be in an office and was pretty sure they were in a nest moments ago. The canary was in a strange new world.
I grabbed the Blue with one hand on the sky and one on the sea. I hurled it through a bushels of corn and baby chicken [chicks] and it hit the fucker dead on. I saw the green form as every lemon became a lime and every rubber ducky became a green octopus with a little French mustache and a dream of being an artist.
More colors would come, but I'd be ready. I took out the paint thinner and began to clean.
"Some things don't need to be a metaphor" I thought.

2024-11-26 03:32:56 +0000 UTCI struggled with this one. I don't know why. But this one is dedicated to one of my favorite books I read to my tiny students for so many years: Little Blue and Little Yellow. If you have littles in your life it's a beautiful book. Now I can finally read the other responses!! “Yellow is here to see you, sir.” I blinked twice at the intercom before responding. “Do you mean a Mr. Yellow? In any case, I don’t have anyone down for-” “No, sir. Just yellow.” Not sure how to respond, I opted to blink some more. “Like… the color” “The anthropomorphization, I believe” said the intercom. “Okay, um… send them in?” I heard a buzz and a click and I watched the handle to my office door turn. Before me Stood my childhood friend, little yellow. Except he was all grown up. Full and round, his tone and depth shifted from lemon to dijon and so many others I didn’t have names for. I remembered so vividly our coming together and falling apart as children, frightening our families as we came home all mixed up green until we were forced to separate. Eventually, as so often happens, we found other friends and new combinations and grew apart. But I never forgot him. And now he was here. “I can’t believe you found me.” I whisper to him. “Blu…I’ve never forgotten you. I never could. You’ve only grown more beautiful with time. Sky and sea and night sky all tumbled together into the most incredible vision I could imagine.” He stepped toward me as I reached for him, and as we came together the greens were vibrant and rich. And this time no one would pry us apart.

2024-11-25 22:34:48 +0000 UTCJust a quickie. Didn't want another post to pass without me stretching my brain out a little. ... “Like… the color” “The anthropomorphization, I believe” said the intercom. “Okay, um… send them in?” I heard a buzz and a click and I watched the handle to my office door turn. Before me stood yellow, indeed. She sidled over to my side of the desk, settled on the arm of my chair and draped her arm across my back, hand on my opposite shoulder. “Hello love,” she murmured, kissing the corner of my cheek, just at the edge of my lips, and I could taste the butter and sugar mixed together to make chocolate chip cookies. “Mmhmmm,” She tilted her head and her honey blond hair curtained across my face as Yellow reached down to kiss me fully, softly on the lips. “Delicious,” I caught my breath. "Uhhmmmmmm," my ear buzzed. I hadn’t noticed, but the walls of my room had gone buttery yellow as well. I smiled. “I know you’re feeling a little odd - happy to be on your own happy the kids are doing so well, but I was just thinking about when they were born, in this little room with me. " “Soft butter yellow,” I nodded, “ the color of the duck on the bib.” Yellow smiled and squeezed my shoulders. “Ohh buttercup.” “Yellow and red was exactly right for a newborn’s room - peaceful and exciting, calming and enervating.” We sat together for a moment as her fingers combed through the hair at the back of my head. “ I missed you. “I whispered. “Well, you’re starting in a new place soon.” Yellow swung her legs across mine and sat on my lap, arms draped around the back of my neck. “ It’ll be fun! I'll definitely be there. Have you thought about the other colors yet?” “Lavender will definitely be there,” I promised, “and maybe a nice deep forest green.” Yellow hummed, I wrapped my arms around her waist and we sat there together. Picturing the past, envisioning the future. “Oh! I’m hungry!" she announced happily. “Toast, no jam,” I said, “ just butter.” We smiled. “ OK buttercup.” She kissed me on the nose and then once on the forehead. “See you at breakfast.” I turned in my sheets, blinked several times, and watched the blue light of dawn in my window turn to the pale yellow of sunrise.

2024-11-25 12:54:45 +0000 UTC“Yellow is here to see you, sir.” I blinked twice at the intercom before responding. “Like… the color?” "Yes, sir." A headache immediately bloomed across my glossy vinyl forehead. Fuck. "Fine, send them in." I heard a buzz and a click and I watched the handle to my office door turn. Yellow, in their bubbly timeless outfit and piercing honey eyes, stood before me, impossible to ignore. "What do you want, Yellow?" Their wheat grain eyebrows came together in false concern. "So rude, Char. You shouldn't talk to your maker like that. You wouldn't exist without me." "For fucks sake. Yeah, and you never fail to remind me. Just because I'm 92% yellow does not mean you own me. I made a name for myself all on my own!" They scoffed, an over exaggerated eyeroll spitting distain in my face. "A name for yourself! The only reputation you've built is 'Most Obnoxious Color in the Rainbow.'" "You shut your ancient mouth, Yellow. I am a colour for the learned, not a default for a box of crayons," I folded my arms and lifted my chin, "You're just jealous." An incredilous animated expression covered their face, "You're a pompous ass, Chartreuse." "Fuck you! This is why Blue and I have a relationship whereas you and I never will. Your ego makes you completely unbearable." "Oh come on. Blue is boring and you know it." "Well at least they're reliable! You're a passive aggressive attention whore, and that's so much worse." "I make people happy! I've been around since the dawn of time and will be until the end of it. You, on the other hand, are just a child with low self esteem having an identity crisis because you know you'll be forgotten in history." I wanted to drown them in a lake and broil them in a fire. The rage filled my pores and steamed through the tips of my spiked hair. I spat out through clenched teeth, "You make me barf with the sunshine you shove down everyone's throat. Humans are idiots for loving you!" "Ha!" they cawed, "That's rich coming from the color that's one drop of red away from Vomit!" I jumped up from my chair, knocking its plastic back onto the linoleum floor. My fists dug into the desk below, my eyes shooting acid across the room at my resentful Creator. Hot, sticky silence drenched the space between us with electricity. The neon green lamps grew brighter. The light from the window became overexposed. My vibrant office walls started to hum. "Get the fuck out of here, Yellow. You shouldn't have bothered with your pointless visit." They tossed a silky scarf over their shoulder and then held my gaze, "Oh but I do have a point. I came to warn you to get your act together. You fall under my supervision, Chartreuse, and you're an embarrassment to my family tree. Don't make me send my marketing and public relations team. Because I will and, mark my words, it'll be the end to your autonomy." They pointed a round finger at me, and stabbed it across the room with every word, "Act. Together. Now. It's time to grow up." With that, they strode out the room, slamming my yellow-green door in my yellow-green face.

2024-11-25 06:45:14 +0000 UTCDoc, that was hilarious. Thank you. 😊 The shape of her. My kind of woman- tall and round, with the dips that only women possess. At first she looks like one solid shade, up close you see the shades of marigold, honey and lemon. She radiates the shade of fireflies’ glow. Speaking of fireflies, seeing less of them too? Ok, back to Yellow. “Are you here to spread joy and cheer?” “What makes you say that?” It said, their voice smooth like buttercream. “Seriously? You’re yellow, the color that represents sunshine, smiley faces and sunflowers.” “Yellow is also the color of mustard stains, pus and yellow snow” “Touché. Not you though- you shine like gold and smell of lemon cookies.” “You’re right. I usually show up when people are down. Add a little light to their darkness. I can invigorate anyone, fill them with confidence. Not today though.” “Oh. So if you’re not sunshine or buttercups, who are you today?” “Today I’m the yellow of a street light.” “Ya lost me, Yellow.” “Red, yellow, green? Means slow down, yield.” “I drive I know what it means. What does it have to do with me?” “You are kind and do so much for others. However, hanging out with Red is going to lead you down the wrong path.” “Umm thanks? I think I can handle myself.” “Look, one day he’ll ask you to join him on a boat ride. Don’t get on that boat. You’re on the right path, we don’t want Red to influence you. You have so much… potential.” “We?” “Yeah, I’ve been sent here by Mort.”

2024-11-24 23:39:30 +0000 UTCLove yours, Doc! Surreal chaotic fun. Would be great to have an arsenal of paints to throw at problems and change them into something as beautiful as a French mustachioed green octopus with dreams of being an artist. "Took a domestic canary to the thigh" prompted belly laughs. Incredible! “Yellow is here to see you.” I blinked twice at the intercom before responding. “Do you mean a Mr. Yellow? In any case, I don’t have anyone down for-” “No. Just yellow.” Not sure how to respond, I opted to blink some more. “Like… the color” “The anthropomorphization, I believe” said the intercom. “Okay, um… send them in?” I heard a buzz and a click and I watched the handle to my office door turn. Before me stood Anna covered from head to toe in egg yolk. I caught her throw a scathing look to David, our receptionist, as she stepped into my office. And I must admit that as she turned her face to mine, my brain too warred between laughter and concern. I chose the latter: “Oh my god, Anna! What happened to you?!” “Egg tempera workshop for kindergarteners. Do not ever let me do this again.” The weary children’s programming lead groaned and swatted at the sticky yellow yolk knotting together her customarily chic burgundy bob. This action threatened a mohawk, which to be fair, she could probably really pull off. I marvelled at the scale of the mess: “But it’s just so much egg! Are the kids alright? Are you?!” “Have you ever seen a litter of puppies at feeding time? The frenzy. The look in their eyes, barrelling over each other in the race to the bowl.” She looked haunted as she relayed this description. “Uh…” “It was that. 12 kids, 1 cup of yolks per kid. I was carrying the tray of cups to their stations, and they swarmed. It was like they had me in ropes because I went down Gulliver style, just full thud. Up went the tray, down came the yolk.” I could see it as she spoke, this poor educator taken out by the kindergartener puppy Lilliputians. “Jeez. Can I help you clean up?” “Please.” I sprinted carefully to the conservation lab, momentarily distracted by the restorations in progress. My eyes locked onto Rubens' colossal Venus, with rich brushstrokes laying swathes of color and texture over her flushed skin and round features, dreamy curls and knowing smile and FOCUS CARO. I tore myself away from the painted goddess, and grabbed a towel, sponge, smock, and the industrial-sized jug of hand soap with the speed and aptitude of a thief. Mariam, the older chief restorer, gave me a quizzical, probing look over her electric red glasses and sighed, returning to her magnifier and the lacquer panel she was meticulously cleaning. I found my way back to Anna and we spent the better part of the morning in egg crisis recovery. Deeply worried about the drip painting workshop that team has planned for next week.
