“I heard about this holiday here and there, but I never really celebrated it. Between my sister and me constantly warring, my mother’s safety, and my dad being well … my dad. Family never really seemed all that important. If anything, family was the thing that I wanted to avoid the most.”
“And you still feel that way?”
“Should I?” he questions, his eyes searching mine. He points towards the house, “Sydero and I are better, obviously. But what about the rest?” He sighs and shakes his head. “I’m mainly talking about my dad.” He runs his hand down his face, “nevermind.”
“No, come on,” I grab his hand, and we walk to a nearby table. He sits on the bench while I park myself on the flat surface of the table, and I wait for him to continue.
“It’s just, Chris got me thinking when he was talking about why he hates it. We’ll be able to invite whoever we want, right?”
“We’re putting it on, so I see no reason why we can’t be in charge of the guest list.”
“Yea, should I even invite my dad? Would he even come if I did?” He buries his face in his hands.
I frown, “Rahim, something tells me that this is more than just ‘should I invite my dad?’ If you didn’t want to or if you only felt like you should because you were obligated, then we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Do … do you want to invite him?”
“Yes,” he groans, getting up and pacing back and forth, “but I know how stupid that is. It’s just … something keeps saying that I’d be mad for not trying. What do you think?”
