I heard a quote somewhere that pretending to be brave and being brave are the same thing. In other words pretending to be someone who is brave is how Usopp overcomes his fear. I absolutely love how Usopp can overcome his fear when he puts on the sogeking alter ego. Oda is too good

Hey, the display case! Nice nice..but you’ll probably need more And sanji turning super Saiyan lol u don’t do all that stuff to Nami and escape uncathed Not me screaming to Usopp “no one is gonna come save u, you gotta save yourself” then Sogeking comes…dammmm such good writing n character development.. Good catch Jason, we finally uncovered who Sogeking is in this episode

Yeah, I completely agree with you Rachel. It's very obnoxiously perverted and I also do not like it. I think in this moment, as well as moments in the future with Sanji, Oda goes way over the top with the pervertedness. I know it's a character trait for him, but he turns it up all the way to 11 at times. I also don't like what he does in the look/design for 95% of the female characters in the future. I blame it on Oda's upbringing, culture or own proclivities or something. Just because he has amaaaaazing storytelling and writing, foreshadowing and world-building, that does not mean that One Piece is 'perfect' in anyone's eyes. So to Jason and Heather--Continue being critical! If you don't like an arc, a character, a scene, etc., do not be afraid to voice your opinion. I feel like you two are very down-to-earth and real people, so I appreciate your candor.

You are correct! I think my wording is confusing - sorry :D

Rachel G

i always thought he has two, one for the hat and the other on his neck

I need the next drop...362 is one of my favorite episodes of the whole thing.

I can see what you're saying. And maybe I am looking into it too much but to paraphrase It's Always Sunny, it's the implication. Either way I can say you're right, I don't believe Oda wouldn't let his characters get hurt in that way. And I suppose this is the Arc that shows that

Dylan Drozeski

Also, Jason the red beads that came with Ace's hat actually go around the hat. For reference check out a photo of Ace from Alabasta. He does wear some around his neck though so either way works :D

This Sanji moment with him being jealous because he wanted the Clear-Clear Fruit - and his reasoning - is one of the reasons that this arc is usually not a favorite with fans. Also, the whole character of Absalom (Invisi-Perv) and his actions is the other main reason fans of One Piece have issues with this arc. I hope if the Live Action ever gets this far they change this as it honestly is so disturbing and disgusting to me as a woman. It honestly made me have issues with Sanji for a long while afterward, though I have come around and I understand this is one of his character flaws even if I do not excuse it.

If this was any other anime I'd agree more but it's one piece dark does happens it's surprising at first, but anything happening to the crew other than physical or emotional pain and maybe some off color humiliation is completely never going to be a thing. This arc is actually what sets that tone in stone. Oda is a god awful goofy genius at times but predictable and naive or cowardly in others, part of me loves it part of me doesn't because I've seen manga/anime get too adult and it just feels annoying to continue.

erueka6

i watched this as a kid and didnt think much of it, only adults realize how messed up it is and at the end im pretty sure its just japanese humor

Kenji

I see what you're saying and understand how someone could see it as an over reaction or "over thinking". However taking things at face value is kind of counterintuitive to the way Oda writes. I'm aware it's just an anime and we needed a reason to not like this villain, but I feel what I said stands. It's a notably darker moment for One Piece. It's supposed to make you un

Dylan Drozeski

SOGEKIIIIIIIIIING!!! LOCK ON! Sogeking lives on Sniper Island. Sniper Island is in your heart. Sogeking lives in Usopps heart and came to save him! Lu Lu Lalala!

ic1025

Ok but taking it further than at face value is weird he's a bad dude as a joke even his own subordinates berated and tell him he's a terrible person and perverted deviant who gets his just desserts in pain that's the entire point. Also not expecting a shower scene in anime is why being widely mainstream was a bad move for anime people not familiar don't get it and take it too seriously.

erueka6

It's more the shower scene. It's just not something I personally expected from the story the first time. I think it's fair to not call this over thinking. It's just different life experiences and events can make you look at things differently

Dylan Drozeski

Why do people overthink and over react to this nothing was going to happen ever it was just a gag along with their criminals not good people don't expect saintly deeds.

erueka6

This arc makes me furious for Nami. The things she goes through are much more sinister than the tone of this show usually is. I mean the threat of death is always present but this is darker.

Dylan Drozeski

We’re still working on it!🤣❤️

It makes sense plot wise that Perona needs to be taken out first, since her ability can take everyone else out. As for Oars, he doesn't bug me because for me its just Luffy in someone else's body doing the usual goofy things he does. What does bug me in this arc is Absalom peaking on Nami, and her being knocked out while being forced to Marry this Jerk. For me that whole situation lowers the arc down in quality, and its only really their to make you really hate Absalom. Other then that the arc is pretty great overall.

Cheddah Slammer

Regarding Oars, if you remember they said that the soul that gets in the zombie's body has no memories of his rightful owner, however remnants of the owner's character linger for a while, until the shadow forgets completely and it's ready to follow the master's orders. That's to say that we have not seen Oars behave evil because a part of goofy Luffy is still lingering.
