It took me some time to revisit this, knowing it would hit me hard again. I love how Shōya’s alienation—along with his struggle to make eye contact—is reflected in the camera framing. The shots deliberately avoid showing the faces of those around him, mirroring his tendency to focus on body language instead. In some face-to-face conversations, the other person's face is intentionally cut out of the frame, leaving an empty space behind him that creates an unsettling effect for the viewer. Brilliant direction.

This movie was so special and ties into "love yourself". I think the reason why Ishida didnt get to say I love you was because the ending was the beginning of his self love journey. I think all of us know that after he learned to love himself, he'll be able to love others too and the movie didnt have to show that to tell us that wil happen later.
