I just wanted to point out that in anime, a character being popular doesn't necessarily mean they're "good." This is quite different from Hollywood movies, where the most beloved characters are often heroes or morally upright figures. In anime, even "cool but bad" characters can become fan favorites. This is because these characters often have multifaceted personalities that make them relatable. A villain might have a compelling reason for their actions, even if they go about things the wrong way (think of Arlong, for example). Moreover, unlike in One Piece, where the main character (MC) almost always tops the popularity charts, many other anime series see fans gravitating toward side characters instead. This often happens because side characters feel more relatable. For instance, I personally don't connect with Tanjiro because I find his extreme kindness a bit over-the-top, making him feel detached from how I perceive people in reality. This also explains why characters like Luffy consistently rank high on popularity charts. Luffy is deeply flawed—he's impulsive, childish, and selfish—but these flaws make him more human and relatable. You can see similar traits in every Straw Hat crew member: no one is without regrets, flaws, or even questionable behavior. So, in anime, don't be surprised when people name a "bad guy" as their favorite character. It’s often because of how layered and relatable those characters can be.

2025-01-24 10:04:01 +0000 UTCHaha, for a second there, I really thought it was Aokiji coming to save the day. I was like, “Wait, what? When did he show up?!” But nope, it’s just our favorite bones messing with us again… Also, can we appreciate Law for a moment? Everything he says sounds so cool, but SHAMBLES? That’s gotta be one of the best move names ever. Every time he says it, I think, yup, he’s the coolest, no doubt .

2025-01-24 08:05:59 +0000 UTCNah, Jason, just keep sharing your thoughts, don’t worry. If you don’t like something, that’s totally normal. everyone has something they don’t like about One Piece (whether it's an arc, a character, etc.). There’s nothing wrong with that. There’s no point in reacting to this content if you’re holding back from being yourself. cheers.

2025-01-24 06:08:02 +0000 UTCMama Drawk's insights from just her first encounter with the manga are superb. Of course, I'm sure she doesn't just read it through once. She probably studies them like a piece of literature. But still, it's so amazing on first read.

2025-01-24 04:00:33 +0000 UTCHey guys, I haven’t commented in a while, but two things you said really made me want to recommend something. First, you mentioned how One Piece is so interconnected, and how Oda does it like no other. This might be hard to believe, but I don’t even think you’ve begun to understand just how good he is at that. Second, you said you couldn’t concentrate in your meeting because you were too focused on what happens next in One Piece. With that in mind, I recommend checking out the YouTube channel The Drawk Show, specifically the “My Teacher Mom Reads One Piece” playlist. I suggest watching up to the Thriller Bark episodes only, since there’s at least one spoiler in later episodes. I don’t think you should film your reactions for the show, but I do think this will blow your mind. Her perspective as someone reading the manga—with a teacher’s love for culture and history—breaks down each arc so brilliantly, almost chapter by chapter (or at least it feels that way). Please consider asking your moderators or fans how they feel about you watching it. I think a lot of people enjoy those “I can’t believe I missed that” moments, and this might enhance your experience even more.

2025-01-24 03:43:25 +0000 UTC8th! Not every bad guy liked is because they redeem themselves. I like Geko Moriah because of the despair/emotion he portrays and watching him try to rebuild his life after the loss of his crew. Brook rarely gets center stage but when he does, Brook makes the most of it! I love the way Brook's and Geko Moriah's character bounce off and enhance their individual emotions and back story. I think it maybe makes Brook my Favorite Straw Hat. Not trying to rank Luffy at all, it's impossible for me to fairly rank Luffy in the series.
