Vinland Saga S1 Ep 1/2 | LET’S GO!!

Love you all H & J

The afterlife of Norse mythology is complicated, & often depends on several factors: how did the person die, what region of Norse mythology is the belief from, & were these ideas before or after the influence of Christianity. There are 5 different realms of the afterlife, & they are best understood when you don’t compare it to other cultures & religions. Here’s a great article that explains the differences much better than I can: https://psychopomp.com/norse-afterlife/

I’m so hyped we’ve all started this show together. Just like you guys, I first saw Vikings on Netflix and thought it was awesome. And then I got into the Vinland Saga anime and honestly… it just hit way harder. I don’t wanna compare the two, especially since live action and anime are totally different beasts, but like, with anime, you’re not limited. The facial expressions, the way they can show pain, rage, or just pure madness, it can get super dark and intense in a way that’s hard to pull off in live action, no matter how good the acting is. There’s just more freedom in how far they can take it visually. I guess at the end of the day that’s why I like to watch more anime than live-action. The elegance of this show really pulled through for me once I finished Season 2, that’s when it really solidified how much I love this show. Now we’re all just waiting for Season 3… no clue when it’s coming. Could be next year, maybe in two. So by the time you’re done with the show, it’ll definitely be a weekly watch with the nakamas here. Oh and about the openings and endings, man, that’s a hard one. Vinland Saga really has some of the best music, but the visuals definitely spoil stuff, especially early on. So I’d say hold off until you’re further into Season 1. But if y’all enjoy reacting to anime music openings and endings, I’d love to see you do all the Attack on Titan openings and endings. A lot of people are fans of the OP & ED scores, and you can totally find compilations on YouTube and maybe even do a ranking on which one is your favorite, it’d be super cool to watch:)

I always knew VS is loved by many anime fans but I was always putting in on hold (to-watch list) 'cause I was more or less aware it's kinda darker, heavier, lots of figthing and blood. So I was waiting for an appropriate mood to hit me so I can watch it. I took this opportunity to watch these 2 first episodes with you both, and boy-oh-boy... I can already tell the storytelling is great. I love how not everything is said in words but you have to read the atmosphere and more subtle storytelling to get everything the show is trying to say. I hope this will continue in the later episodes as well. And I can already tell the tear-jerking tragedy is coming our way. I was never interested in Nordic mythology (I was more a fan of Greek mythology, btw, Zeus is from Greek mythology not Nordic) but, hey. This show got me suddenly interested, like... Yeah... Thorfinn asked a great question there and I love how they made a kid to ask this question, since adults would be past that age of curiosity and naivety that makes children question everything they see, hear and know... Valhalla is Nordic equivalent of Heaven, right? Where only true warriors are allowed to enter after they die in battle with honour. So where do women go after they die? Is the Valhalla a dimension where no women exist? So after your death you're not gonna get re-united with your family and loved ones? You're not even gonna get all your lovely wifes like in Islam? Are women and children, and men who didn't die honourably in battle are doomed to turn into nothingness? Anyone here, who knows Nordic mythology and can answer my questions...? And yeah... The mood of those two episodes left me so edgy and curious that I think I'm gonna binge-watch VS this weekend lol. Maybe I'll watch it again with your weekly drops here, unless I find it too heavy to watch for 2nd time.

This was one of the first anime that got me into reading the manga... Like I could not wait for the weekly episodes any longer. So there's going to be a lot of rediscovering while watching along! 😊

VS is anime fiction but there is some historical facts in the show. For instance Leif Erikson was a real person who likely did find the Americas first up in Canada and founded a settlement in Newfoundland. The anime does take place during historical Viking and English events. This is kinds like the Anime version of the History Channels Viking TV show, both not entirely true with made up characters but true event with some historical people thrown in.

If you think about it, THIS is REAL t.v because you can turn your imagination to reality, live t.v is limited

Vinland Saga is such a profound story that will make you think about so many things, like war/violence, freedom, belief, the perseverance of humanity. It weaves a story that only provides enlightenment through one’s own experiences & the wisdom (or lack thereof) they gain from it. Their world is complex, blurring the boundaries of right & wrong. However, “no one has any enemies” is a quote that should simmer in the back of your mind while watching. Can’t wait for you guys to see more!

I was like you Franina. I started watching it thinking I may not like it or that it wasn't my cup of tea. Oh, how wrong I was. Yes, it's heavy, it's heartbreaking, but it's also much more than that. I can't say too much as I would otherwise spoil it for you, but this right here is a real masterpiece which deserves all the praises it gets. I hope you decide to join us but I get what you are saying and many times you need to be in the right place mentally to watch certain shows.

This must be watched like you would a drama. Once you start watching anime, you realise they are not kids' shows, especially when you go into Seinen territory. Watching movies has lost its appeal to me, as I find anime to have so much soul and depth. This is a masterpiece guys, and I'm not joking when I say that at the end of S2 you will ask yourselves how can anything else top it. Enjoy!

I’m torn because i definitely want to watch Vinland saga but it’s very deep and heavy. I’m trying to be more positive in my life and I’m not sure if I could deal with this kind of storytelling right now. But at the same time I’ve heard Vinland saga helped change a lot of people’s life’s and touched them in a way no other story has. So far 3 of the reaction channels I’ve watched including you guys have started watching Vinland saga all around the same time. Maybe it’s the universe trying to tell me it’s time to watch it and hopefully I will find a lesson that’s meant for me. I always wanna experience every single day of the week with you guys so I might cave in and give it a watch. No doubt this is some of the most beautiful storytelling you will ever come across ❤️

Franina

🥲 won't be able to watch till way in the night, looking forward to reaction !

Cats4Eva

Lucia Petrozzi
