As you may know Japanese people are usually more conservative towards physical contact, for example, they don't really hug or kiss in public very often with the exception of very specific social dynamics. When we see a character patting someone's head we might think it seems like patting a dog, but that usually refers to a parent patting the head of their child, usually to confort them after failing at something or praise them after achieving something. That's why Frieren was patting both Heither and Sein, as a way of praising them for doing a good job, since they look like kids from her perspective.

2025-06-03 18:41:34 +0000 UTCEp 14 killed us all I think when we first watched it, the moments between Himmel and Frieren are so emotional. We can really see Frieren’s evolution of her emotional state and her realizations of events. Not sure if you noticed, but when Himmel got down on one knee and placed the ring on Frieren’s finger, the clock tower was shown in between them (representing “time keeping them apart”). The storytelling of this show is next level, between the metaphors, detail in the messaging, flashbacks/dual-storytelling, and Frieren realizing so many things about her previous journey on this current journey, it really is magical ✨🪄
