VINLAND SAGA EP 14/ 15! We don’t know what to think anymore!

This anime is incredible! Love you all H & J

I think Askellad killed Ragnar so he can manipulate the prince and become the puppet master. Ragnar would have prevented that askellad can exploit the prince

This two episodes blew my mind. I think the show depicted Christianity perfectly in these two episodes by showing different phases people go through on the journey with Christianity. I see so many Christians act this way in real life. I was also shocked about askeladd and his men pillaging the village because I have gotten used to use fighting other people that I forgotten about that side of them. And poor Ragnar, he got on my nerves at times but he was only doing what’s best for the prince. I was actually sad he died. It was actually good that you guys only did a 2 parter for this week because I feel like episodes 14 and 15 went together as a pair perfectly.

That bit with the priest and the two brothers, they’re trying to figure out what the priest meant by love when it was mentioned in ep12: love is what gives value to gold, silver, beautiful woman, etc. In ep14, the two brothers think they figured it out, that love is like their bond/ teamwork in the battlefield supposedly unbreakable even by the lure of silver… Which normally would be considered to be a form of love but when the priest asked them if he joined the battlefield would they also protect him like how they help each other. The younger brother said no, it was only possible with the other guy since it was his brother. So, when the incident with Thors is mentioned, about how they attacked and ambushed Thors ultimately killing him (so obviously they were enemies) but how he took out 30 of their men with his bare hand despite having a sword yet none of the 30 died, and what Thors said: “A true warrior doesn’t need a sword” (remember they were enemies) that’s what got the priest interested. I won’t say more since I’m not sure if that’s headed towards spoiler territory, but this gives the viewer a better idea of what the priest is searching for.

If I know H&J well enough, I would say they would enjoy both Apothecary Diaries and Fruit Basket but Apothecary Diaries is gaining a lot of fandom, both male and female, and many are saying it should have won the awards. I'm sure it would boost the channel's growth too.

For fall time might be nice to maybe do a more spooky one? Dark Gathering perhaps?

Heather keeps mentioning Fruits Basket—which is one of my fave classic shoujo anime! You’ve seen shoujo movies (Your Name, Weathering With You) but I can’t wait to see your reactions to a shoujo tv show. It’s a fun & relaxing watch that reaches immense emotional depth without getting too philosophical like Vinland Saga & Frieren. I’d also throw my vote towards Apothecary Diaries cuz it’s phenomenal, but that’s more like Sherlock Holmes or House MD with historical & shoujo/romance elements added to it. Fruits Basket is a slice of life centered around the ideas of love (romantic & familial). If you’re a sucker for love stories, this would be a great pick in the future!

Couldn’t have said it better!

Jason your spot on why Askeladd planned Ragnar's death, he needs to take control of Canute for his own goals, and Ragnar was in the way. This was hinted at in ep 13 when Askeladd and Gratianus mentioned how all chicks (birdies) eventually need to leave the nest... and Askeladd was told to "make sure the chick leaves the nest" so Ragnar was cooked at that point 😬 These 2 episodes just add more layers, complexity to Askeladd's character

It's a very thought-provoking show. Episode 14 especially so: The girl who stole the ring says she is elated, not because of joy, but because of a twisted kind of relief - it's a moment of cognitive dissonance turned emotional liberation, as if to say "If people like them exist and aren't immediately struck down by divine justice, maybe God isn't watching everything...maybe I’m not going to hell after all." In a brutal world ruled by men, traditional ideas of right and wrong, and divine justice, can shatter. The girl's brief moment of "elation" is actually her faith breaking, and her redefining what counts as sin in a world where horror goes unpunished. It’s a devastating moment of lost innocence and one of the subtler gut punches that the show delivers.

Its not unheard of manga artists take long hiatus just to do research for their stories to make it as realistic as possible. It always sucks having to wait for the stories to continue.

You're right Lucia . The quote is only the 2nd sentence . "Nous entrons dans l'avenir à reculons" by Paul Valery. This is maybe his most famous quote. Ýou can find some articles of famous French quotes on " leParisien" or leFigaro".

David Ramier

I read somewhere that Paul Valéry, a French poet, wrote that boat quote at the beginning but I cannot find any article to corroborate that. If not, I feel it was WIT that came up with it as I'm not sure it was in the manga.

Geez ep 14 always gives me chills...definitely one of those deep ones, lots can be said about it but will let someone else elaborate, beyond my thinking capacity at 12am 😵‍💫 I'm too old to be awake this late
