What a twisted faith for Thorfinn to live all those years in anger, always seeking revenge, just for things to turn up this way. He was robbed of his goal in life...what is he going to do with his life now?! Askeladd has finally become the figure we were expecting him to be. A tragic, complex and multifaceted character like very few in media today, but still able to impart advice to Thorfinn on his death bed. Epic, epic finale.

What's crazy is that in ep 18, when Askeladd confessed to Canute that he killed Ragnar, Askeladd said if he was left alive he would help the prince even at the cost of his life... and Askeladd did just that, and also managed to save his homeland too! what a way to go out... Poor Thorfinn ๐ฅฒ

He teeters morality, thriving in the grey with so much charisma & wisdom that you canโt help but root for him despite being the antagonist. His last scheme perfectly exemplifies his mentality by creating his own choice to save both Wales & Canuteโ& robbing Thorfinn of the revenge he single-mindedly pursued. Askeladd knew that his death wasnโt going to be the solution Thorfinn needed, even if Thorfinn couldnโt realize it. His final moments created huge waves that changed the trajectory for all the other characters. Especially for Thorfinn: what will he do with the rest of his life? How will he move on? How will he cope with not obtaining the revenge he dedicated his whole life towards? Will he consider the dream of Vinland as suggested by Lief? So much to look forward to! Canโt wait to start S2!!
