Moving on from Syrup Village! Usopp is in tow and now we head to Baratie! Prepare to see a lot of differences between the next 2 arcs and what happened in the Live Action. Baratie and Arlong Park were changed the most. Arlong Park is going to be great, but Loguetown onward is the real fun begins!

2023-10-22 15:28:43 +0000 UTCThe Gaimon episode is a weird filler in the sense that it's in the manga so I see it as having some intended significance to the story or character development. IMO true filler episodes are those that are not in the manga and therefore non-canon. However depending on the filler it can deepen viewer attachment to the characters as if it were intended by the original author as most authors are not involved with anime outside the source material. Some filler though, are clearly there to put some distance between the anime and manga as the anime can quickly catch up to the source material. The quality of the animation and the writing can be... subpar. With them you can get entire multi-episode arcs of story that, though can entertaining, ultimately means little to nothing in the big picture. Though for those who want more content, more of the characters they love... it can be worth it. I personally tend to avoid fillers if I can, as I usually just want to get back to the story content. Though I will admit, I've seen some filler content that had me dying with laughter.

2023-10-22 04:56:08 +0000 UTCMy pleasure. Btw, "friends" in Japanese is "Tomotachi". Luffy treasures every "tomotachi" he meets along the way. But he refers to his crewmates as "nakama", not "tomotachi", this holds deeper meaning and relationship.

2023-10-22 03:41:06 +0000 UTCEpisode 18 seemed like a filler but unusually it is not. It is canon in the manga, a chapter right after Usopp's arc. But he never did it again. After that, almost all chapters serve their purpose in the main plot. Oda once said Gaimon was his favourite character but I guessed he was just joking, maybe to dodge the question of who is his favourite among the crew.

2023-10-22 03:29:27 +0000 UTCSome Japanese words that would always appear in anime (or general Jap conversation) for your information: "San", e.g. Usopp san, Kaya san, as Heather said, means Mr or Miss or Mrs, an honorific that addresses someone without gender specific. "Kun", e.g. Usopp kun mentioned by Merry, like "san", is to address someone, usually with someone senior addressing some junior, like a teacher addressing a pupil or an elder sister addressing their litter brother, etc. Usually, it is for boys (not girls). "Sama", is to address someone with huge respect, e.g. for King, God, or someone really superior to you. e.g. Kami sama means God. Usopp sama, means MR Usopp (with huge respect), but it also can be playful like mocking. "Nakama", Luffy always says we are nakama. English sub always translates it as "we are friends". But it is somewhat not exactly equivalent. "Nakama" in Japanese holds a deep meaning that is closer than a friend, crew, companion, or comrade. Almost like a family or as close as a family but they serve the same goal as a team or comrade. They hold dearly as nakama.
