In these two episodes we got the information that something inanimate like a gun, can be used as a host for a Devil Fruit's power. The word “Devil” in the term “Devil Fruit” is the translation that got chosen for the japanese word “悪魔” (akuma), which refers to something animate that is evil. Even fruits are somewhat animate, and thus with fusing something inanimate like a gun is, with something somewhat animate like a Devil Fruit is, one can create something somewhat animate.
