This movie was released in 2003, during the Jaya arc, and it's the 1st full-budget one. You're SORT of right about the Pirates of the Caribbean connection, since its first movie came out a few months later in the same year 😉. Btw, did you know that Pirates of the Caribbean itself is based on the 1990s videogame The Secret of the Monkey Island? It's a fun(ny) text adventure that was groundbreaking for the time, which you can get for cheap on Steam. It also has two great sequels. This is often considered to be the most One Piece-y of the movies, and it has a good soundtrack, like the rest of the series, so I'm not surprised you liked this one more than the previous ones. I did too. As for the English-language lines, this fansub apparently went for a more Americanized, but still relative accurate translation in its meaning. The Japanese don't really "swear", and the language they use can be quite repetitive, so fansubbers and official studios like Netflix and Crunchyroll tend to "spice" the words up a bit. The latter two don't do so as strongly as those who translated this movie though. Also, the Shuraiya guy that smashes Luffy's head into the table and glassware in the pirate bar did it literally 6 days after the airing of Episode 146, where Bellamy also crashes Luffy's head into the table and glassware in Jaya's Mock Town restaurant. Kind of a funny "coincidence" I myself just realized as I watched your reaction. You also mentioned how the Straw Hat crew faced a Marine stronghold roughly midway through the movie. Kinda interesting how the anime writers put them into a real one during the filler G8 arc, starting 50 episodes later. I do wonder if that's why they decided to elaborate on it then. After all, the first series director of the anime Konosuke Uda revealed that the plot of G8 was originally considered for use in a theatrical film.

Swear words and slang languages often contain cultural features and do not always have equivalent translation in the target language. From my understanding whenever its translated to Bitch, the insult is closer to Slut. Also if characters were actually saying the F-word, they would say it in English.
