Hi again, a couple months behind ;P You were talking at the beginning how watching is different as a kid vs adult...I wasn't a kid per say, but probably early 20's when I watched OP the first time. I was a lonley kid, but had a pretty easy childhood. And During Nami's arc, i didn't understand why Nami wasn't upset with Luffy destroying her work, even if it was forced work. I get it now, but that made me think of it. Also a fun little detail, when they're all jumping into the sea, Zoro literally tosses Chopper instead of say, holding onto him lol

Animelover1991

I get so behind on your drops due to work and other things. Love you guys. If you ever wonder if Oda is going to answer to a question you have you know he will. Maybe not quickly but eventually he does. What a mastermind. The Merry...a ship has more character development than a lot of characters from other series. It's like am I crying over a ship? Lol

Jechtsphere

Right!!!!😂❤️💯

Jason DeVan

you know you are a one piece fan when you cry over a ship.

James Wiggle

I’m hoping in can start with the live action!😆 my dad is into martial arts so I got that! The rest I’ll leave up to Oda’s writing! I know my mom will love it!👍 I’ll keep ya posted!🤗

Jason DeVan

Please let me know how getting your parents to watch One Piece works out for ya. I've been trying for years lol 😅

KnoseTrain35

"Merry, the sea floor is dark and lonesome, so we'll watch you to the end..."

Martin Hagen

In all honesty, I've never seen or heard of a one piece fan and be negative towards anyone giving a shot at One Piece or not. I believe that you have to be a special type of person ( in a good way lol) to understand the wonder that is "The One Piece"

Nesz Vids (Eric Perez)

Merry has the best heroic return I've ever seen in EVER. It gets me every time :D

IronHeartedDevil

I cried so much the 1st time to say goobye to Merry . The next arc would be very special to both of you ... Love you guys . nakama for Life.

David Ramier

Besides partner don't have kids in one piece.

Cutler

And here we are the first One Piece episode that made me actually ugly cry. Water 7-Enies Lobby were definitely the most emotional arcs. There are moments moving forward that will definitely tear your soul apart too, but it all started here is what I'm saying. It's not Nami stabbing her arm at Arlong Park from here on out, it's Oda stabbing your heart.

Voltakackackack

Saying you want to get others into One Piece, you really are one of us now. You are now JehOda Witnesses and want to spread the good word of One Piece lol

Christopher LoBosco Jr.

yeah really much appreciated! 🙏

Kenji

the going merry the first to actually die in one piece

Kenji

this^ exactly this^

Kenji

I always remember watching this with my four friends. Two of them and I were crying our eyes out because of the Merry's death. My One friend however, has a very "Men don't cry" type of outlook. This friend started laughing during this scene, started saying "its just a ship". I was going to tell him off, but when I looked at him, he was actually crying, He was just trying to talk himself out of it lol.

The arc with Merry hit me so hard when I read it... It made me think of a lot of past friends, pets, family- loved ones, and my current ones. The feeling of how when things end, or people drift apart, or we lose loved ones - we can end up feeling guilty of so many missed opportunities. So much regret we can carry. But in the end of the day, those past experiences and connections help form who we are today. And from those relationships and connections we carry just as much knowledge, good, and love. :) Can't wait to keep going on this One Piece journey with you all.

"I think this is one of Oda's masterpieces arc-wise because right from the beginning, it deals with loss and the need to accept it. I compare the Going Merry to an elder relative who has supported you throughout your life, behind the scenes and through your journey, helping you achieve your dreams. I think you can interpret it in different ways, but I like to think of it as a relative you were caught off guard with their health decline, even though you knew they were at the age where they could go any moment. Of course, Oda doesn't stop there; he lets you think the ship is destroyed or gone with the regret of not saying goodbye. But no, Oda has the ship hang on just enough so her family can say goodbye, giving everyone closure. When I worked at a hospice, people would tell me stories of those who suddenly got better one day, as if they were completely healthy, like they knew they were going to die the next day and held on just a bit longer to say goodbye to friends and family. I think Oda is saying, 'Don't forget to let your loved ones know you care,' because it's so easy not to, but it's okay to move on once it happens. After watching this episode, I usually make plans to spend time with my family and make sure they know I love them. I rewatched this episode a week ago and afterward bought my mom flowers and took her out to eat, not for Mother's Day; I still have plans for that."

Cutler

I like how Jason is now in the boat of "how do I convince other people to watch One Piece?" It is such a special show that I feel it would be a shame for someone not to watch during their life, especially if they are a reader. But One Piece is such a hard sell. I mean from the beginning it looks silly and many would probably feel embarrassed just to watch it, if they didn't know what they were getting into. But it is the absurdism that makes One Piece possible it's just a shame that many people will go their entire lives not knowing what they missed in this silly pirate show for kids.

Fold

A Man doesn't die until he is forgotten Shi shi shi.

Fold

Y'all's voices became so peaceful after Merry's funeral. It's nice that an episode that can cause such sadness can give you such peace. I always thought the Going Merry was going to have plot armor that was going to keep it safe, I never considered the Merry could break much less die. It's crazy how quickly it went from silly boat to living ship. And good luck explaining to anyone that you're crying because a ship died.

Fold

This arc is far from over. And we still have the epilogue to this Saga. We start another Saga in about 15 or so episodes.

LoneCourier21

When Luffy says it's us who has to apologize, the flood dam burst. Ending on him screaming "Merry!" I ugly cried for like 30 minutes. Goodbye Merry. And they say no one dies in One Piece...

Dylan Drozeski

Depression is something I deal with everyday and currently recovering from severe depression and I know how hard it feels to be worthless and how it can have an effect on someone and the others around them…im 25 and I’m just getting started on my life after high school because I never knew that I was depressed when I graduated but I’m on a better path now and I’m currently going to college to start my career and the rest of my life! ❤️🥳

Bryan

What an amazing writer Oda is! Can you believe that all this was foreshadowed since Skypiea?! And since then there's been hints thrown all the way here and there! All to build up to this very moment.... I'm crying for a ship...who would have thought. Goodbye Merry!

Lucia Petrozzi

Just realized the word play with his new girls Pauly is Poly. Oda is a pun genius

Adam V.

The next one is my favorite no bones about it

Adam V.

Had to wait till I got home from work to watch these so worth it

Adam V.

Kenji

i am a capricorn just like gol d. roger i was born a king 👑

Kenji

i cant wait for you to start the manga

Kenji

I'm glad you made it to this episodes, it's very difficult to explain why we all cried over a boat, but now you're on the same boat as us. The Merry will live, because as long as we remember her she is not dead! Getting that merry as a gift was great timing, and don't worry about not remembering some of the names, it's just not possible to remember them all without taking notes or rewatching the show. I didn't even know there was a pandaman until I started rewatching.

Potzi

The Merry’s passing defines also the end of the crew’s ’easier life’. On the Merry, they learned to be pirates, they made all the mistakes you can make while sailing. Until now there were unknown pirates, with no big enemies, but now they reached the next step in their pirates career toward the top by challenging the Government, and it’s time to say goodbye to the more naive/innocent/ inexperienced part of them, represented by the Merry. What’s next, Jason? Well about 800 episodes of pure magic, emotions, friendship and adventures.

BashaM

like when i finish my job and i can finally sleep

Leandrorr

I didn't cry once...I'm lying! Good bye Merry.

EgregiousGrievous

Oh the next 2 crew mates are arguably the previest and the funniest strawhats!! I cant wait for you guys to meet him soon!!! ☠️🎻

Vishwa

Oda's message about letting go when necessary yet cherishing the legacy in our hearts resonates deeply with me.

theshittycook

"I cried over a boat" is both a blessing and a curse. I still cry over a boat when watching this episode for many times LOLOL, not Titanic can do so.

theshittycook

dang Mo za! Honestly I was a yearly watcher till 2023. i would forget about OP for a year, dont even look at anything and then I binge watch it. I cant do that now. being a weekly watcher is intense

Regie Khemvisay

I am a Scorpio too! LOL

theshittycook

yes! well said! ughhh, gotta love Oda for bringing us this masterpiece

Regie Khemvisay

Merry lived a truly splendid life. She held her breath until she spotted the Gallery Company ship, knowing her beloved crewmates would be safe. This was her way of reciprocating the love and care shown by her companions. As she split in half, the direction of the story became clear; it was time to let go and bid farewell to Merry. But Oda went beyond mere farewell. He orchestrated a heartfelt funeral that left every one of us bawling our eyes out, out of a boat of all things. His writing transcends imagination and comprehension. We will always remember Merry. Rest in peace, Merry!!

theshittycook

At least once a year I'll rewatch episode 312 and just let myself cry, and it never fails.

ic1025

Jason asking whats next, would you believe it if we told you that somehow it gets better? And since you guys know it's an epic adventure, where would you guys predict we go next?

AnimeTeeJay

😢😢😢

Jason DeVan

Welcome Benny. I am a bit loner too feel you. I rarely comment on the YouTube channels or Patreon pages I subscribe to, but I'm giving it a try here. LOL

theshittycook

Jim H

Regie Khemvisay

Regie Khemvisay

i was gonna challenge myself of not crying on this episode, but eyes hurt now...so that was a total fail..Merry, we will miss u but u will always be with us in this journey forever! thank you and we love you! This is the famous scene of "I cried over a boat" damm it never not hurts.. and to Jason's question: "What's next?" Soooo much more :) and can you imagine the day when the to be continued is gone and it says in red bold letters. The End... I cant! i can go for 1k more episodes and more

Regie Khemvisay

At the time oda was teasing us that a straw hat will die, we never thought it was the merry. Also this is when I caught up to the weekly air show I did 260 till 315 In like a day 😅

Mo za

I just cant leave with a dry eye with Merry farewell ep

Ming GAO

They have the straw hat at box lunch! I’m getting me one there… OP is a worldly anime that’s talks about lots of stuff, whether it’s good or bad. Just one of the greatest anime out there regardless of the pacing issue. The more you watch it, the more u understand what GOda wants to say. Heather and I and our other Scorpio Nakama are a ZORO.. he’s a Scorpio too

Regie Khemvisay

welcome to The One Piece experience. where you drop tears even because a ship

Leandrorr

I'm about to start watching, and I already have tears in my eyes before even pressing play

ic1025

Yes, I am the one who enjoys writing, I'm actually really touched you remembered that! No big essay from me this time. I just wanted to say thank you to both of you, as well as your community for being such kind and welcoming people. I know I'm pretty new here, but it doesn't feel like it, and that's thanks to you guys and the community you've built. I'm a bit of a loner, but I enjoy interacting with all of you. I've truly had a wonderful time watching your journey through my favorite story of all time. Looking forward to watching the next 700+ episodes!

Molto_Benny

You have your own merry now so it's not goodbye
