Hidden Spirit Tree Library
Added 2025-06-20 10:22:28 +0000 UTCThe free archive is attached to the bottom of this post!
A local bookshop proves to be more than it appears on the surface — a space-warping eldritch library that sprawls inward towards a misty other-world! Is the proprietor missing or complicit?
This is a map I sort of conceptualized as several distinct spaces that chain together. I feel that the massive vine portal demands future elaboration. Maybe I’ll draw some sort of spirit-world hanging vines scene. Mmm delicious swamps.
Thoughts
The proprietor forgot to pay his debts to the owl-panda god. Explosive plant growth (& occupiers) took over his business.
They say there’s an archivist who went deep into the swamp to find the root (ha ha) of the problem, but nobody’s heard of him in years…
I’ve designed the map to be separated into 3-4 separate areas — the dusty bookshop, the expanded archive, the overgrown library, & the spirit world vine portal — so you could use them individually for separate scenarios! In fact, that’s what the “individual” variants are for.
Two hidden spiral staircases have been included to serve as alternative points for attaching other dungeon structures.
All city variants are compatible with the Modular Japanese City Collection — specifically possessing 8×8 street connectors!
Contents

Hidden Spirit Tree Library: An innocent shop in town that turns out to be bigger on the inside. Oh dear! How deep does it go?
Overgrown: The entire store’s been overrun with plant life from deeper inside!
Swamp: The exterior’s been swapped for a jungle or swampland!
Spirit World: The exterior now matches the ghostly, misty interior of the portal. For when your players are really lost.
Standalone Areas: The three major areas — the book store, the overgrown library, & the vine-world portal — cut up into separate image files, so you can more easily use them as standalone scenes!
Day/Night Variants: Wherever applicable!
