I’ve always felt that in my personal opinion. Sae is fully aware that Rin’s goal isn’t actually to be the best striker. His true goal is just to be better than his brother. Which is why he doesn’t think Rin has what it takes and has that disappointment that Rin can’t find independence and strive for a goal without constantly obsessing over only playing the sport because it relates to his brother. Which isn’t wrong. Rin himself does have an unhealthy obsession with surpassing Sae. Sae could be nicer with how he says it though, true. Sae doesn’t care for Isagi more than Rin, but he respects Isagi more than Rin as a player. Because Isagi does genuinely have the ego and want to strive to be the best in the world and that is his goal, not even including Isagi’s ability to adapt and analyse as a striker. I think with Rin’s breakdown. As overdramatised as it is. Rin has spent so long chasing after his brother and wanting to do it alone in order to prove “hey, I’m the best striker” as a big 🖕🏻to Sae, so he can’t accept that there are people who won’t let him achieve his dream alone and are capable of reading his plays and keeping up with him.
