I know these were recorded a month ago so you're probably past caring about it at this point. But in the video for 215+216 you talk about not liking the idea of a "Dai Dai Kaio" when we already have the Dai Kaio. I have two theories about why the Kaioshin was introduced when the Dai Kaio was already a thing. First theory is that the animators came up with the idea of the Dai Kaio for the anime when they were trying to come up with ideas for filler, and at the time Toriyama hadn't come up with the idea for the Kaioshin yet or hadn't got to drawing that part of the story yet. So Toriyama came up with the Kaioshin separately. Second theory is that Toriyama had already started planning the Kaioshin and mentioned it to the animators and they used that idea as inspiration for the filler, but he didn't give them the full details so what they came up with didn't match what he was thinking. In either case, I think that later on when Toriyama started fleshing out the Tenkaichi Budokai plot, he didn't want to re-use the Dai Kaio for a few reasons. Firstly, he wanted his identity to be a mystery, and if he used the Dai Kaio then Goku and the viewer would recognise him in the anime unless he somehow disguised himself (which would feel a bit cheap since Kami already did that previously). Secondly, because the Dai Kaio hadn't appeared in the manga yet but had appeared in the anime, which could make it a bit awkward. And thirdly, because the Dai Kaio has a much less serious attitude than he wanted for the arc. So it was more a case of introducing the character because the plot needed him to be a certain way, rather than introducing for world-building purposes.

2025-06-06 22:56:47 +0000 UTCI've always hated how the English dub changes character dialogue for no reason whatsoever. The part where Goten says "Kamekameha" instead of "Kamehameha" and Trunks correcting him was completely changed. In the English dub, Goten says "Kamehameha" correctly and Trunks simply asks him if he knows how to control it. I especially hate this specific dialogue change because in the video games, Goten uses his "Kamekameha", and the people who only saw the English dub would have no idea why it was spelled "incorrectly".
