AMA: Recommending NSFW comics

Q.: What NSFW/adult comics do you recommend reading? Which ones do you draw inspiration from?

A.: This is a fantastic question! Many of the comics that were offered as bonus rewards represent some of my favorites, but here's a list of some of the comics that you might enjoy...

(After you read this, check back later... I'm hoping some patrons will help fill out the list, and I'm bound to come back and add some that I've forgotten!)

XXXenophile: Phil Foglio's XXXenophile, for me, is the Platinum Standard against which I try to measure Evil Inc After Dark. It's sci-fi erotica that brings a joyfulness to sex that I find really, really appealing. When I was struggling with the decision of committing to nsfw comics, I had a long talk with Phil, and he assuaged my fears and encouraged me to go forward. In many ways, Phil is a big reason I'm here.

Botcomics: Botcomics' adult section includes a focus on breast expansion, giantess and bimboification. Of the three, the breast-expansion stuff had me decide to become a subscriber for a year. The art is fantastic, but some of the storytelling can be a little flat (no pun intended).

Filthy Figments: I became aware of Filthy Figments through a webcomics friend, Gina Biggs. I was a Kickstarter backer for their most recent anthology, Score, and I think there's a lot of work over there that's super hot.

Spinnerette: The art and the storytelling in Spinnerette are top notch, and if you have a thing for super-powered sex, I think you're going to like it a lot.

Not So Long Stories: I discovered Not So Long Stories recently, and I'd love to get them to do a content trade soon. (The only problem is I don't think they do Patreon exclusives.) I looooove the art, and it's wonderfully imaginative.

Dmitry's Futa: Not for the faint-of-heart, Dmitry Sergeev's work is very fetishy — specializing in futanari. But the guy can draw his butt off, and I keep him on my radar as a reminder of how far I have to go as an artist.

The work of InCase — particularly his Alfie series — is kept in view for the same reason. Spellbinding art and no-limits storytelling.

Non-comics erotica

Circlet Press: I was so excited to find out that there was a publisher of erotica that focused on sci-fi. Circlet Press has some really great stuff, including Like A Mask Removed, an anthology of superhero erotica that's available as a bonus reward.

Nobilis Erotica: I discovered Circlet Press through the Nobilis Reed podcast, Nobilis Erotica, which has a similar sci-fi focus. Their podcast is a staple for background listening while I'm inking Evil Inc After Dark.

Print Collections

The Classic Pin-Up Art of Jack Cole. Along with creating my all-time favorite superhero, Plastic Man, Jack Cole was a wonderful single-panel cartoonist whose work appeared regularly in Playboy. When I draw Courting Disaster, this is the mark I'm aiming for.

The Art of Doug Sneyd. While we're talking about Playboy cartoonists, we can't forget Sneyd, whose style, for me, is definitive of the genre.

Speaking of cartoonists who hold a special place in my heart, The Erotic Art of Wallace Wood, is scheduled to be released in March, and I've already added it to my Amazon Wish List for my wife to stumble upon.

When I decided to make Courting Disaster an adults-only feature (it was originally made for newspapers), I got The Pin-Up Art of Humorama for inspiration. It sits on the bookshelf next to The Monster Girls Encyclopedia Vol. 1 and Spunky Knight.

I also own the first four volumes of Empowered by Adam Warren. Adam has been re-releasing Empowered as a webcomic, starting from Page 1 / Vol. 1. He's currently midway through volume five.

And, although it's strictly PG-13, The Sequential Art of Amanda Conner makes my heart race.

Your turn...

What am I missing? What are your favorite nsfw comics? Hit the comments below and let me know. If they offer Patreon exclusives, I might even reach out and see if they want to do a content trade.

Have you written them and asked about it? That would be about the only way I know of.

Is there anyway to convince Mr. Foglio to produce a hardcover omnibus of Xxxenophile? Tracking down all the issues has been difficult and expensive.

Love me some Phil and Dixie.

Loved XXXenophile and Cherry Poptart. Less sex and more drama witrh nudity was Omaha the Cat Dancer. I also think Ironwood by Bill Willingham (and maybe an artist whose name I am not recalling) was a lot of fun. And to go back further - if you can get your hands on Wally Wood's erotic stuff, it is beautiful to look at!

All great suggestions. I'd like to add I roved out in search of truth and love http://irovedout.com/ as a great series. The art is lush and the naughty stuff is wonderfully messy in all the best ways. and I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the works of Stjepan Šejić and his wife Linda Lukšić Šejić https://www.deviantart.com/shiniez and https://www.deviantart.com/calisto-lynn Pixie Trix comics has a fun little world lead by Gisele Lagace's Menage a 3 http://www.pixietrixcomix.com/

I was a Cherry Poptart fan. Fun, silly comedic short stories, mostly as pop culture (80s/90s) with a sex positive message added. And Adam Talley's Starslam is fun for a more story driven erotic comic about superheroes.

Caleb Davis

The cummoner is another of the Euro NSFW comics with everything in the right place.

Can't forget The Rock Cocks on http://rockcocks.slipshine.net/ and Patreon.

Oglaf is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. I have been reading that one for a long time. I am embarrassed I forgot to mention it earlier.

Bill Ward, probably best known for his work in the old "Cracked" magazine, did really great FemDom comics in the 1950s-70s. Menage a 3 is a great webcomic.

Mr. Nobody

Here’s a vote for Oglaf, one of the greatest webcomics EVER. Filthy and frequently laugh-out-loud funny: https://www.oglaf.com/

StLOrca (pronounced Ess Tee Ell Orca)

Of course! I was just listening to "Mistress and the Pea" driving home from the studio last night. Great stuff!

Thanks for the shout-out!
