Evil Inc full page, week of Feb. 5, 2019

Here's your first look at the full-page version of this week's Evil Inc comics.

A note on this week's updates ...

EDIT: As you may have noticed, both commissions have been posted, the Evil Inc comic has been updated, and EiAD will post later tonight, rendering most of the rest this post obsolete — right up until the last two paragraphs.

You may have noticed a slowdown in posts this week. I've had a slight bottleneck dues to a weird convergence of events.

First, Monday's Bonus Cartoon hit me as a decent candidate to submit to The New Yorker. I don't think it's got a snowball's chance, but every once in a while, I submit something to them to satisfy the masochist in me. My previous attempts were declined within a few days. This one was submitted on Jan 21, and I haven't heard a thing. Of course, if the editors discover the cartoon has been published anywhere else, they'll reject it. So it's holding. For now.

I have two commissions scheduled to post this week, as well. One has been delayed while a minor alteration requested by the patron is being addressed. The second was scheduled for today, but Colorist Supreme Alex Heberling is currently moving into her new Sanctum Sanctorum — and that was bound to cause a brief delay.

And I have the continuation of the OctoLad/Ghost Girl storyline finished and ready to be colored.

I apologize for the delay. It's all on its way... it's all good stuff. And I'm already working on next week's projects. Expect a few days with multiple posts in the near future.

Meanwhile, I've decided to start interviewing for an assistant to help take over some of the clerical responsibilities required of running my business. That's taking up a few extra hours as I conduct interviews, but in the long run, I'm hoping it will allow me to focus more time on comics.

If you would have told me three years ago I would be saying that, I would have laughed pretty hard. And it's all possible because of your Patreon backing, so thank you for that.

the colorized version really makes the pop 'PoP' so to speak :D

I can't stress this enough: ***YOU*** are welcomed to download the files and sync them to OneDrive. ***I*** cannot. And for many reasons: • As soon as I add One Drive, another patron will tell me that I need to add GoogleDrive. Or iCloud. Or Azure. I saw this happen with several eBook offerings over the course of a 20 year career. It's guaranteed. The minute I say "Hey everybody, we're adding OneDrive," I get a dozen e-mail asking why I can't add iCloud. • It needs to be Dropbox because I use Dropbox for a dozen other uses — including sending files to colorists, sending files to printers, personal storage of works in progress, etc. • OneDrive does not offer creating links with expirations — which is a must — in its free service. I'd need to upgrade to the $70 service. • I cannot spend the extra time administering multiple storage services. It's not about syncing... it's about creating expiring links and sending them to patrons. It takes me about 30 minutes to administer the monthly reward package as is. Adding another is an hour. At some point, I start falling behind on doing actual art. • All of this is solvable on your side of the equation. You can download everything and shuffle it off to another storage option. You can choose not to sync certain folders. For example, you can save 400 MB by not syncing the full-page Evil Incs. Here's more information on Selective Sync: https://www.dropbox.com/help/syncing-uploads/selective-sync-overview

Brad, how about having OneDrive as an additional option? This give your patrons a choice of cloud platform. If you keep a local copy of your files and auto-sync to DropBox, then you could do the same simultaneously with a free OneDrive account. (Doesn't have to be OneDrive, just suggesting that one since their free option is 5GB).

I'm afraid I can't. But *you* are welcome to set up different storage spaces for the content.

Brad Guigar

Instead of one account, have 5 or 6?

David Heiligmann

I'm afraid I don't understand you

Brad Guigar

Brad, can you break the accounts like your links? An EIAD, an After Dark, commissions, etc?

David Heiligmann

Holy cats! You're right! I just added it up, and I'm clocking out over 2 gigs! That's an amazing point I need to start including in my Patreon promotion! So, let's workshop this. I'm using Dropbox, and switching to another provider is a non-starter. I use it in too many collaborations for that to be on the table. How can we address this together?

Brad Guigar

Forgive me if there's a better place to post this question: have you considered either switching, or adding an additional, cloud storage option? DropBox provides 2GB free and your content just topped that limit. I know because I have a dedicated account just for Evil Inc and it's 101% full. I don't care which free provider you use, but as an example, OneDrive's free offering is 5GB. That's allows plenty of room for growth.

THANK YOU! I was sweating that one!

Brad Guigar

Bob: Unfortunately yes. They’d have to work out if my studio in Philly.

Final panel, the joke...it was perfect. Just perfect.

Does your assistant have to be local to you? Asking for a friend looking for a job.

I love LL; she is the best!
