September Report

Happy October everyone! Thank you for your support over the past month, especially for the time I got to spend hiking and getting away! 🧡 It's report time!
Here's my September task list:

☑️ Continue CYOA  adventure.

☑️ Out of office hiking trip the week of the 11-17th

Finish Libby story script and start on new pages.

☑️ Do more fanart whenever possible

Get physical comic store online again.

Some things got done and two did not, starting on the comic and getting my webstore up and running. Still working on those, but I think I set myself up for failure with too many priorities and not enough focus and I should know better!
My October plan is now more limited but also more doable.

🎃October Plan:

Keep fanart-ing in simple color palette.

Continue CYOA

Get Fitting for a Lady physical edition up on webstore. (Other comics will come as I'm able to get them finished.

Start drawing Libby comic, even if I don't know where the story goes beyond the first 15 pages 😅 Better have something flawed than nothing, after all.

I'm really pleased with how the CYOA project has gone, but it's also basically turned into a comic unto itself with this last encounter

I'm fine with it expanding a bit beyond my initial intentions but I think it competed with my progress on Libby a little bit more than I expected.

I left you all with a little bit of a cliffhanger for a bit while I shifted focus to other things, so I'll shoot to put another poll in front of you in the next week to progress  the CYOA!

This month I did get into more fanart, which I was pleased with, I think it helped to simplify my palette some so I have a few less variables when I sit down to do some work

I do love drawing Abigail.

Here's a little preview, I'm working on Isabela from Dragon Age page in a similar format to the Abigail drawings.

Being on the road for a week or so meant I did more sketching than usual this month.

This is partially just to help me plan and figure out the Libby story and the characters involved, and I'm not entirely sure if it's helped.

I've definitely gotten better at drawing the characters, but when I started doing NSFW work I had a philosophy: Make work Fast, Cheap, Charming and Fun.

This philosophy was a little bit to keep me protected from my perfectionist tendencies and I think it helped for a long time.  This year I've let things get a bit out of hand with doing more ambitious things.

I think it's good to want to grow and complicate one's work and process, but I fear I have let my ambition to tell more complicated stories just stop me from creating anything at all.

I'd like to try to amend that this month by doing work that is faster and cheaper. I don't mean to suggest that the quality will dip, just that I'll keep myself on a shorter leash so to speak.

I feel like everyone that I know has had to deal with heightened general anxiety in their lives and I've found this year that I'm no exception to that. I want to keep growing as an artist, but setting increasingly higher bars for myself in terms of quality and output seems to just inhibit me more than help.

I usually find I do my best work within restriction, like these recent Libby illustrations. Even if they're a little sketchy they get the important things down and I think I'd rather express more in a sloppy way than need to be constantly outdoing myself.

For creatives, especially the self-employed, we kinda set up the rules of the game for ourselves, and I think my rules this year have been a little badly skewed.

I'm going to return to my roots of doing things a little faster and cheaper until I can get things under better control.

This might mean that my updates will be slightly sparse over the next two weeks. I have to manage some contractors doing foundation repairs in my home, and some other imminent deadlines, but beyond the 15th I should be much more relaxed.

🎃October Plan Recap

Keep fanart-ing in simple color palette.

CYOA Pt.4 Poll

Fitting for a Lady on webstore

Libby comic pages in b/w!

Hi there, new supporter here. I always admired your simple, yet effective art! I also share a lot of the thoughts you’ve written in this post and I’d like to talk about it to you in private, if that’s ok (or even here in the comments). Hoping to hear from you soon!
