Bosomy cartoons, Garden Witch and Peach Sticker Design

Happy Thursday, Department folks!

Doing garden witch animation stuff has gotten me really stuck on cartoons in an interesting way. I keep finding my hand resisting drawing them as simply as I ought to and I keep wanting to add more details.

I'm giving myself the assignment of continuing to draw more cartoonish characters in my sketchbook just to see if I can give myself some new strategies for not letting things get too information dense.

My go-to strategy for this is to use stylized eyes as an anchor, or making sure I use kinda straightened, simplified lines, but I still drift toward my neutral gear of a kind of naturalism/realism. :\

I usually think that my drawing ability or anatomy knowledge is an asset but it also makes me over-complicate a lot of things.

Alas, I think the lesson to be learned is that animation is something that I can't merely pick up and go with, but it doesn't mean I shouldn't try, I'll just need to admit that I'm going to be learning skills I didn't know I needed in order to get what I want out of it. Humbling.

Kitt🐰 and I were talking about the fact that we need to restock some of our stickers and that the Peach one is all sold out!

I've been wanting to do some sort of vintage Barbie homage and there's this drawing from the Peaches zine that I always liked but was just kinda shoved in the corner, so I decided to give it an update.

I'm kinda new to making stickers, that's more of Kitt's area of focus, so I'm trying to think about how the art can become more like a badge or a self-contained pendant shape and not always just a cut out figure.

That's all I've got for today, but it looks like we'll be doing another shop update early next week with Daisies Zines.
