How did you get here?

In February, I asked my Patreon backers... So, how did you find out about Evil Inc After Dark? The post contained a link to a one-question survey, and that survey has been distributed with every Welcome e-mail for new patrons ever since.

I wrote about my findings in a subscriber-only post on Webcomics.com, and I'm happy to share them here with you.

Surprisingly, the vast majority of my Patreon backers are discovering my Patreon content through my site — and not through social media. (Although you could argue that come of them discovered the site itself through social media.) As much as I’m a proponent of publishing through social media, this is a strong argument in favor of continuing my efforts on my own site as well.

Second was Patreon itself. As you know, I don’t feel as if Patreon should be relied upon for discovery. However, it’s good to know that Patreon is a solid contributor in that category. (It’s especially impressive since, due to the NSFW nature of my Patreon page, I don’t show up in Patreon’s search results.)

Social media — including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter — are nearly nonexistent players. They account for less than 1.5% apiece. However, as I said earlier, it may well be the case that my backers discovered the site itself through social media.

But that Patreon Content Exchange! That’s a very solid performer, accounting for nearly 4%. It's a fantastic bonus for my backers, and it's powerful promotion for my Patreon.

Since I just joined a few days ago, I'll contribute an answer now in case you're interested: I found you via Patreon -- specifically, the sampler "Space Pirates" comic that was shared via Sean Harrington. From there I found your site and have been slowly but surely reading Evil Inc. all the way through from the beginning (currently, funnily enough, I just finished the 2012 arc that introduced Captain Scarr). I don't know how I had never seen it up to now, but I'm glad I finally discovered it!

Am I the only one who is growing increasingly curious what all those little slivers are? It's like 15% of the total amount, picking up just one or two backers each. I'm sure there are some fun stories in there.

Does this show all patrons or new ones since launching after dark? I followed ei from before launch so i think similar answers would skew results toward past instead of present work. Also, wouldn't the NSFW content specifically lower share rates on social media? (Or maybe my friends are too clean?)
