The anime actually ruined the end moment with Cocytus there, in the novel he walks down an alleyway onto a new street to leave the street Brain defended unfrozen in honour of his bravery and might as a warrior.

He is one of the few ones who understands the path and honour of a warrior and would never do something that would tarnish it. Cocytus understood perfectly that a true warrior was standing before him when Brain introduced himself and gave him the honour of a fair duel.
