One thing to take note of with Gilthunder, whenever he appeared on screen before the invasion of the capital we got a shot of a Raven with glowing red eyes, that was Vivian's familiar watching over Gil. Same goes for Margaret, with her we regularly saw a shot of a Lizard before seeing her on screen. So the whole thing was really set up from the very beginning.
