since lay is so big in china he got called for a national theatre event right before this stage and the fanmeeting, hence why he wasn't there. The problem with lay and being involved with exo is that its not so much the political tension anymore, but rather because of his popularity in china. The thing about most chinese kpop idols is that they often get stuck in the "chinese kpop fan" bubble and its hard for them to get general public recognition and compete with big names like zhou shen, hua chen yu, jj lin, xiao zhan, etc. For example, names like Yuqi (G-Idle), zhang hao (zb1), and ningning (aespa) are still trying to break through that bubble. Ningning i'd say is the one who's gotten the furthest out of the bubble, of course not on a lay / jackson wang level where everyone on the street knows them, but she has began entering general public awareness. Anyway, lay is like the bruno mars of china. He actively competes with household names and is massive. Due to this, as one would expect, it makes his ability to promote in exo that much more limited. Whats great about lay though is no matter how successful he has gotten, he has always credited exo and has always wanted to return and actively promote with the group. hopefully we see him promoting for the new album

It sounds so good and i love this sound. So excited for the album! Can’t wait to see what vibe the title track is.

Of course we all miss cbx and if this was a return of all 9 of them it truly would’ve broken the internet but I’m still very proud of exo and you can see how happy they were to be back on stage 🖤
