The first grave is ferns, and she misses her so she’s laying over it like she used to lay on her lap all the time. The rest of the ending is her traveling back to heaven to see fern again where we get the final scene of her laying on her lap again. Ever since I heard this theory I almost can’t watch this ending anymore 😭

It really pleases me to see you watch each episode and it pleases me to hear you kinda think of it as a gift to you from your viewers, am I right? I hope so anyway because that's why I recommend it to people I like. You seem like a decent human being, and they're scarce, so you deserve to have Frieren in your life lol.

In her time after the defeat of the demon king she traveled alone so she was unable to see the change that Himmel brought on in her, but now traveling with Fern and Stark the impact of Himmel is clear.

2024-10-13 16:57:53 +0000 UTCI believe the new ending is just the continuation of the same song, the lyrics in part 2 answering the question being asked in part 1, and the whole taken together just adding to the beautiful sadness you mentioned. (and I don't even want to think too much on what the imagery of Frieren resting her head on a grave at the start turning into resting her head on Fern's lap means...). Few animes have made me feel as deeply as Frieren. Sure, lots of anime can devastate you with tragic developments and sudden deaths or joyful climaxes to various stories being told, but none quite like Frieren with a constant barrage of profound life lessons wrapped up in truly beautiful visuals and vocals that hits you deep and hard and all interweave in this bittersweet nostalgia that I desperately hope will somehow turn into a happy ending at the conlcusion of it all.
