About the Patreon Fees
Added 2017-12-08 16:58:19 +0000 UTCHello everyone. I'm sure that by now you all know about the changes on the way fees are handled that Patreon is planing to implement soon.
Basicaly they are moving the payments fees from we creators, to you our supporters. They will be charging a fee of 2.9% plus $0.35 for every pledge, effectibly having multiple 1-2$ pledges way more expensive.
Most creators (me included) were okay with covering those fees ourselves, but moving that fee to our supportes is not something I agree with, and I completely understand if any will be forced to drop their pledges if this changes comes to effect. Here's the post they made if you want more details:

I love supporting other artists, but even I had to cut a few of them due to this changes, even if it pains me to do it, so I understand if you need to do the same with mine. Due to this, I'm getting rid of my first tier, which is going to be even more redundant with this changes, and I'm may change things up in the future if needed.
I don't think this is the end of all things (yet) so I'll see how things turn out in the future, and I thank everyone that has supported me, no matter the amount.

The biggest downside isn't really the fees, though the fees compound the issue. It's that they've gone and done away with the transaction aggregation. I had about 80 creators I supported on Patreon, and because of that, and because of the per-page transaction fee, I would have been looking at 90-95 separate charges on my bank statement and $40 in additional fees... I'm working out how to trim $40 worth of pledges out right now and still cover all the most important ones.

2017-12-10 08:11:58 +0000 UTCActually, you can't pledge to the $0.50 tier anymore anyway, nor to the $1.25 tier. Patreon has blocked partial dollar pledges for anything under $4. Two of the tiers in the campaign here actually can't be pledged towards anymore.

2017-12-08 20:03:12 +0000 UTC100% agree. It's a 10% price hike for $5 patrons, a 20% hike for all $2 pledges and a 38% price hike for all $1 pledges. It's also actually pretty terrible news that every subscription has its own charge timer, as credit cards will now see a separate charge for every single pledge you have. For those of us who support 30+ creators, that's going to really fuck with our credit cards (on top of being an idiotic decision that just enormously multiplies how much Patreon--and thus us--are paying to credit card companies). I'll have to drop 1/4 of the creators I support to keep my Patreon bill from jumping up $10/month because of this change. It's a pretty huge change for all lower-tier supporters. Removing the $0.50 tier is definitely a good idea, since the patron would actually be paying nearly double that.

Also I am wondering something would you make more or less if you switched from a by the page to a by the month payment system ? Like $10 per month instead of per page ? Not saying you should do that just thinking if you had that option I'd take it no problem as I'm already almost giving $10 dollars a month as is.
