Camera Company marketing departments are brilliant at selling things that you don't need.
One of the Costliest mistakes I ever made was thinking, I had to have every Canon L 2.8 zoom they made.
The Canon 70-200 2.8 L is an amazing piece of work and produces great images. It is also responsible for the most images that look alike. Most think you have to shoot at 2.8 and near max zoom, resulting in beautiful background blur, which is nice, but it really reveals the lack of understanding of other principles of people photography that are far more important. Subject, Lighting, Composition, and Story. I hate seeing a possible beautiful image ruined by zero thought about composition.
Search for this lens on like Pbase or something and see just how similar things begin to look.
My own progression made me realize to ditch all zooms and shoot with a 50mm lens for a year. One lens.
I learned how to see much better and pay attention to all those things I love.
It might work for you, and save you the money I wasted.
Restrict yourself and see what happens.
