Chapter 96

As the caravan drove off the beaten paths and entered the vast forests of no man's land, Kanae flew past the canopy to scan where they had come. No one was following them. Thank goodness. No chance that the Protectorates and the Knights of One were going to let that attack on Lograin stand. However, after hitting them, the demons, and Talon where it hurt should have left them reeling and weak.

Kanae gazed back in the direction where they were going. Ehmvier Village was close. Pillars of thin smoke, signs of life and civilization that they had built, rose against the snowy backdrop of distant mountains which separated no man's land from the demon domains. Lady and Minestra's forces were a ticking time bomb. Who knew when they would come barreling down and attack them outright alongside Talon.

Hopefully the addition of hundreds of followers of the Eminence of Sin would be more than enough to bolster the village's strength.

They reached Ehmvier the following morning, and Kanae was relieved to find the village untouched and still standing. She was afraid that another attack would have been made upon it in her absence, but those concerns were ultimately unfounded.

When the caravan breached the treeline and lumber yard, village loggers celebrated and cheered for their return. Tiny, the giant devil mutt, charged past the open village gates with Teana clinging to the mane on his back.

The citizens of Lograin were justifiably afraid, but Kanae assured them he was mostly harmless.

"Mama, I missed you!" Teana leapt off Tiny and dove straight into Kanae's arms.

They entered the village together which looked like it had seen a lot of improvements. Not only had it expanded in size, a bigger workshop had been built to accommodate Grell's blacksmiths, a lot more houses had been raised, and villagers mingled and traded in the open.

However, the uneasy looks of the newcomers' faces told Kanae that some were having second thoughts of abandoning their previous life. It was a big move to leave the comforts of city life for one that might as well be out in the boonies.

"Mistress, welcome back!" Lilith exclaimed as she and the other Sisters of Sin came to greet her.

"Find a home for everyone and make sure they settle in nicely," Kanae ordered.

"Arenade…" Kanae squinted at her.

"Auntie, no drinking!" Teana warned the priestess.

Arenade sighed. "I know, I know… Got to wait until this baby is out."

Noah suddenly stumbled out of the carriage, clutching his head.

"I drained him a little too hard back in Lograin. Speaking of which, we need to start preparing for an actual war. I give the Protectorates a month, two at max. Preferably, we should take care of the Talon situation before then," Kanae explained.

Over the next two weeks, Ehmvier and Highgreen worked together to supply the other what their respective cities needed. Manpower, lumber, food, and just about anything to help repel attacks. Attempts to forge a trade route were met by constant ambushes from demons and hostile beastmen alike. Although easily beaten back, they succeeded in sowing hesitation. There was also the issue back at home.

Ruling was harder than Kanae thought.

"So, what you're telling me is… You can't help but get an erection every time you pass the stables… because the gaurs are swinging their big boobs at you?" Kanae raised an unamused brow at the young dark elven farmer before her.

An exhausted middle-aged human man stepped up, hat wrinkled between both hands in front of his chest. Kanae recognized him as among the exodus from Lograin.

The moment they pulled off the hoods, she recognized them immediately.

"Meidina, Tabitha! You were here this whole time?" Kanae embraced her devout followers, who were among the original three Sisters of Sin alongside Lilith.

Tabitha hugged tightly. "We were ashamed for being unable to protect your temple in Lograin… We saw you return and jumped at the chance to join the exodus, but…"

"Tabitha wasn't sure how to face you until I convinced her that we belong by your side. Will you take us under your wing again?" Meidina asked almost pleadingly.

"You should have come to me sooner! Of course, I'd be happy to take you both back." She sighed in relief. It was almost like home in Lograin again, being surrounded by familiar faces. "What say we gather the other Sisters to celebrate?"

The elven girl squirmed anxiously. "We already spoke with Lilith, but… I can't believe our Sisters have become succubi. Is it true that you can transform us? Will you do the same for us?"

It came as no surprise that Meidina and Tabitha wanted to become succubi. They were among the most fervent like Lilith.
