i think they are last names just like the origins its a persons name with son or their profession eg smith

2024-07-27 19:46:16 +0000 UTCAround the viking times people didn't exactly have last names so they were known as their name son of their fathers name etc. which was also often pronounced as fathers name + son. E.g. Thor Odinson is Thor son of Odin. This is why when Thor speaks to Agent Coulson he says "know this son of Coul" because Thor thinks he is the son of Coul which isn't the case it's just his name.

Viking is just a catch all term.
