This isn’t about abilities by the way, it’s about how your partner sees you and though Iris will definitely need saving since she isn’t a metahuman, it doesn’t have to be her whole existence. Plus Barry has been fixated on saving her more than being with her. Again, not about right and wrong reasons/actions, it’s about impact! Also, getting married because of fear and not because you want to can be absolutely insulting since marriage is supposed to be a choice and so Barry proposing out of fear is definitely a strong enough reason for Iris’ hesitations

Then you see the future and see that you die on the road in traffic accident. Maybe you took a bus or train and something happened or ubered, whichever the case something bad happens in future. So you decide to buy the car you wanted to buy in order to drive that car in the future hoping you will avoid the accident. Yes its not the best reason to buy the car of your dreams but it doesnt change the fact that you are buying car of your dreams and in that doing action you would definitely do sooner or later. its weird to me. Between proposing thus progressing their love story in consentual way that benefit both of them (its not like he forced engagement on her. if she wasnt ready she could have said no so this is clearly something they both want), and potentially saving her life in the process... this is win-win-win situation. only "Lose" situation here is the one she is pushing onto them for no reason. I mean sure i understand the reason, she wants the marriage and everything related to it to be perfect so underhanded reason behind proposal kinda ruins it. But i think this narrative goes out of the window when you could die in 5 months and there is no certain way of preventing it. Savitar and future travel aside, to put it realistically, lets say they find out iris got a cancer and only 5 months left before cancer dies. In this case you can do the chemo, there are surgeries etc... even then, proposing to woman you love before 5 months is over so that she can die from cancer as your wife IS valid reason to propose and it would come from pure place of love even though you probably wouldnt propose that day and would wait a bit longer if you never found out about cancer. But alternative to it is to NOT propose and just wait 5 months to see if she beats cancer or not. In my eyes this alternative is cruel and cold hearted, making me question if they love each other in the first place. So out of the two clearly i believe what barry did is the right move. Imagine if barry was just like "ok, you might die in 5 months so i wanna break up with you". thats just stupid, and to be fair i think the fact that he turned 180 after escaping the speed force with wally is also very stupid and i hate barry for it as much as i hate Iris for being stupid in the first place

But that is just one of many things Barry does to save iris while trying to do everything in his power to stop all the other indicators (headlines) while also trying to do everything he can to stop savitar in the first place. So its not like he is only working on headlines, he is also working on getting fast enough to reach the gap in order to save her, to the point where he even is willing to give that mantle to Wally. Proposal is just one of the many things AND it is not like it wouldnt happen before plus as i mentioned in another comment somewhere bellow it only brings benefits. Lets say there is nothing they could do to stop her death, proposing gives then purpose and focus on present, living those 5 months to the fullest. Getting married, trying not to waste those 5 months so it is a good thing to propose and focus on the time they got left. Alternatively, lets say proposal does change future and Iris lives. They did not just save her life but not they can thanks to that proposal go on and live their happily ever after. Only negative in this proposal is the delusional one in Iris's head cause she is too busy being terrible character to think rationaly and appreciate everything barry is doing trying to save her life. And lets not pretend she is in the right and a victim here. She is literally guiltripping Barry for trying to save her life like she doesnt know that he saw both his mom and his dad die in front of him AND is now trying to stop that from happening to her. I simply cant see justification for her actions. I will give you credit though. Your reply did made me stop and think for a second regarding the jelaousy thing. So after thinking about it a lot i will give you that its not action out of pure love, it is misguided action out of desperation fueled with love. I would disagree with you pushing it as far as saying that jealous act is not one of love because you cant be jealous without loving someone. well you can but that is different type of jealousy than the one discussed here and if that is the type you talking about then it is wrong to use it as comparison for what barry did. (the type of jealousy such as someone being jealous of bill gates being so rich for example, there is no love present in that jealousy, but killing your ex's new boyfriend for reasons you said would be jealousy out of love although same action could easily be taken out of hatred and vengeance but that is just a tangent XD )

Obviously, Barry loves Iris...we've known that since episode 1. But as you can see in the last episode, him proposing to Iris ONLY because he loves her wasn't the only reason and that was the issue. We all can preach about "Oh but Barry wanted to save your life because he loves you." Duh but again proposing to someone means that the ONE and ONLY reason to do so is ONLY because you love them. Barry knew that proposing right then and there would "probably" change the future and that's what he did and Wally called him out on it.

Switching them to another school makes 100% sense. Because this is directly influencing the event in which you saw. But this isn't what Barry is doing. What Barry did is more like seeing the vision, and noticing your kid is wearing white trainers. So instead, you force them to wear black crocs. This has very little, if any, perceivable influence on the outcome of that event. Iris and Barry's marriage has no bearing on the future event. It's just Barry grasping out of desperation. When I say it's "not an act of love" this is not me saying Barry doesn't love Iris. You can love a person and do things for the wrong reason. Let me give another weak example: Let's say you had an ex-girlfriend that you were still madly in love with, but she already has another boyfriend. So you go to their house and murder him, because you believe that she is the best woman in the world and deserves to be with someone better, like you. Would you say this an act of love? Most people wouldn't. Just because you love her doesn't change that this is an action of jealousy. Barry's action is from desperate fear. Not love. Again, doesn't mean he doesn't love her, but it's not the same thing.

Obviously if you love someone, you want to keep them out of harm, but there's levels to this. You have a child yourself Don. Of course you don't want them hurt, right? But when they go to school, do you sit in the classroom the entire time with them? Monitor them all the time? Let's say they did get hurt. Maybe they tripped on a pebble or something at school. Barry does a lot of things without thinking, we can’t praise him for all of it.

She would’ve gotten sucked in, and now Barry would be responsible to find both of them. Or even if all 3 got sucked in, they have to rely on other speedsters from other worlds to save them. What Barry did was the best thing, he had no choice but to stand there. The speedforce is strong and no one can handle that kinda of force
