2024-10-10 12:26:56 +0000 UTCok so. i started learning how to cook when i was 10, i finished cullinary high school and i got my first job at 16 as grill chef (just flipping meat). i left my country at 18 because of family issues, got a job as dishwasher in restaurant in germany (didnt even speak the language), got promoted to starter chef in two months and by the end of year i was moved to oven. One thing i have to say is that after experiencing every position in the same restaurant it helped me realize how conected everything is. If dishwasher is slow and we suddenly dont have dishes it causes chaos. you need to find replacement first of all. you put dish meant for square plate on a round one and it can compromise the dish, but it also means you are doubling down on your consumption of round plates. which means you are now more likely to run out of round plates. it sounds trivial but if every time you start serving food you need to waste time on figuring out plating then that pushes everything back. meat for next round of service will stay longer on the griddle, side dishes might get cold or cooked too long. Everyone shouts at each other because its impossible to pinpoint who's fault it is. Think of it as constant butterfly effect on maximum level and not everything is human mistake. Imagine a fuse blow up and you need to reset it. its a simple flip of a button, but by the time you realize fuse is off your fryer probably cooled down, griddle isnt hot anymore and you probably only noticed because one of those is underperforming meaning you got something in the fryer or meat on the griddle. Now you are in situation where you need to get someone to stop doing their job to get the fuse and you either have meat that is not cooking properly of something soaking the grease in cold fryer. Instead of working on your order you need to deal with situation, which will probably end up pushing dishes back even further and you cant use fryer/griddle while they get back to proper temperature. when you are in kitchen where mutliple stations need to work as a perfect machine, single hiccup on any station causes domino effect thats impossible to stop. So although everyone yell at each other the machine keeps going and somehow food goes out. and at the end of the day when you sign off and are not "chef" and are just another citizen you're all friends, water under the bridge etc. IF you cant keep kitchen drama in the kitchen and life drama outside of kitchen then you should not work in the kitchen. Everything that happened in the episode is realistic, only bit of unrealism i could point out is that its unlikely all of this to happen at same time in one day, or at least this level of chaos is not happening every day (because deliveries are normally every other day or couple times a week depending on the establishment)

Not to mention Damon's and Stefan's characters are great as well, plus he would get introduced into the lore of everything etc. Just a great place to start when diving into that universe all around
