Stefan grew obsessed with Elena because she looks like Katherine. Damon fell in love with Elena over the 1st season because they grew close, bonded and Elena treated him like a person and a friend and was kind to him (except for the times when she went along with Stefan's shady plans to lie to and betray Damon)! It's also disgustingly annoying how on 1 hand Stefan always jealously tells Damon to stay away from his girlfriend and that he is not good enough for her, then turns around and uses his feelings for her to get Damon to protect Elena at all costs, and if it requires Damkn to do things they later judge he can also hold that against Damon and judge him for it as further proof he isn't good enough for happiness.

2025-06-05 20:17:35 +0000 UTCThere are no good excuses for Damon's behavior, but that's what I like about Damon, personally. It's what makes him an interesting anti-hero. Stefan....I like him as a character for the most part, but I wish they didn't make him so "tortured, brooding soul" right from the start; it's very Twilight-esque (I *hate* that movie) and makes Stefan a bit....dull isn't the right word. Maudlin, I would say. Without giving away spoilers for Don, I will say Stefan becomes more interesting as time goes on. I just wish the writers had figured out a different way of portraying his inner struggle than broody-vampire-boi.
