Missing the point! My deep dislike, and sometimes hatred, for Stefan isn't that he was a monster in the past (and present) but that he lies and pretends that he was always pure and righteous! He goes around telling Elena and everyone else a rewritten version of his history, and it's not until we see the flashbacks that we learn the truth about him, not that he behaved as a vampire doesn't (which i have no problem with) but that he puts on a facade of being a saint (while simultaneously demonizing Damon's entire existence)!

You watch The Vampire Diaries through to the end of Season 4, then watch the Season 5 premiere, and then you can officially begin The Originals series with all the background/lore you need. There is a recommended watch order if you care to follow it, though given the way you post your reactions, I feel you're very much like me. You watch what you're in the mood to watch when you want to watch it. So you may end up deviating from the watch order anyway, lol. If that's what you want to do, I'm not going to criticize or judge. I've never gotten past the first few episodes of The Originals myself, but I'll try to watch it along with you. I know it gets better from all the hype about it, so I think I need to just stick with it. I just wasn't into the main plotline they started off with, which I won't get into because eventually you might read this comment. If you do read it, I don't want it to end up spoiling anything for you.

Dracula isn't as old as the Originals. 😄 The legend of Count Dracula is based on the real-life historical figure of Vlad the Impaler, who was from the 15th century. The Originals...I think Elijah (or Klaus?) said something about being around for a thousand years. Dracula is around 600 years. Whether or not he exists in the Vampire Diaries world, I can't say, but the Dracula legend is not old enough to have created the Originals. I just read Dracula by Bram Stoker for the first time a couple months ago, and I think Klaus is just a little bit more cruel than ol' Vladdy boy. Patience...patience...the show WILL answer your question about how they came to be the Originals.
