The Doctor being half human is not cannon, this is one that is just not true, remember, Timelords lie.

Brent Justice

Because he’s an alternative version of the first doctor not the tv one. Also the 7th doctor regenerates into the 8th in the tv movie its cannon helen and bbc was part of this movie.agreed not the best thing in the world but not that bad.then theres........spoilers😬

King parrott

Was never a fan of this tv movie, thought it was bad. I also don't understand how he is classed as a doctor when Peter Cushing did 2 great movies, one being Dr who and the Daleks and he's not in the official Dr Who list of doctors.

Helen Dobinson

The 13 lives thing is true, and as of season 6 the Doctor is on his 11th

The Three Doctors would be a good one to watch. Logopolis and Castrovalva maybe? Not sure can recommend the 6th and 7th Doctors though. The TV movie had definitely has the benefit of people more being more used to modern age Who, plus some excellent 8th Doctor audio adventures from Big Finish. It's definitely mellowed my opinion of it.

Mr K

I second that....and Terror of the Zygons may prove to be beneficial as well.

Please give spearhead from space a watch

The 13 life’s of the Doctor/Timelords in general is canon. Awesome reaction as always!

Ignore the "Half Human" line, this got retconned by everyone right away, but Paul McGann is officially the 8th Doctor and canon, we just never got to see him regenerate into 9 (Christopher Eccleston) as the BBC wanted to start off fresh back in 2005. But one way to look at it is, this Doctor was the Doctor during the Time War...

Aside from the half-human nonesense (which Fox insisted on,as they thought no-one would sympathise with someone who was completely alien);and a rather odd Indiana Jones vibe throughout,I really like this TV movie. It re-ignited my interest in Who back in 1996,and got me buying some of the Classic videos.

The ratings in the UK were actually quite good, but it significantly underperformed in the US, though this was at least partly because it aired opposite an episode of Roseanne which was very popular at the time. As a result. the BBC weren't willing to go ahead without American money and so any plans for a new TV series were shelved.

Interesting to note, that they got the bullets out of the Doctor and he was fine, at least stable...but the needless operation to uncover his abnormal heartbeat is what caused him to regenerate. Grace is the only companion to kill the Doctor.

I’m experiencing déjà vu. The night I watched this much-anticipated movie when it aired, the power went out in my apartment building about twenty minutes before the end of the movie. Reruns and the DVD gave me back what I missed, but that night I got cheated out of the ending was a sore blow.

The Doctor does indeed have 13 lives. All Time Lords do. After 13 they can't regenerate anymore. Though the bit about being half human is usually ignored.

This was meant to be the pilot episode for a US version of Doctor Who, airing on Fox. Either it didn’t perform well in the ratings or Fox was being Fox and decided not to go forward with the series. It tied into the old series by the doctor in the beginning played by Sylvester McCoy (#7) who was the doctor when the show was canceled in 1989.

I like that you thought it was maybe about the 3rd Doctor xD

i'm with ya on that Coop!

Underrated. Love that Tardis interior & the theme rocks!
