I thought this episode was pretty fantastic. And I loved the Graham-shooting-lasers bits, actually. Finally he had some experiments with tech! Lol. In seriousness, though, the Doctor couldn't have asked the Master about the redemption or whatnot because it might have been spoilers, and if it was, the Master would have far too much knowledge about his future. It seems to be a consensus among many fans that this is probably post-Missy, and that discovering the lie re: the Timeless Child made all his growth go out the window. Which, in fairness, it would: we know how he reacted when he found out that the Time Lords themselves put the drum beat in his head that made him insane. Something as fundamental and important as the new knowledge obviously is would be more than enough for Master-with-PTSD to go off the rails again. As for Vor and the consequences therein, it was definitely an allegory for today's times IMO. We constantly click "agree", and give out our information to loads of people (it struck me as ironic that Google picked that time to chime in for you :P ), and in the wrong hands that could be incredibly dangerous. It's a commentary on the pervasiveness of technology in our everyday lives, and the harm it could potentially cause if we are careless. I guess the idea was that people would wake up to the dangers of all the tech after they found out about the Vor founder; but then, it's been shown on Who itself that people easily forget past danger to concentrate on the here and now. Easy for show continuity, but also true of people in general. Yet another allegory. Last point (I promise): I am SO with you on being glad that there is finally danger and darkness in the show again. Such a large part of 13's character was simply not addressed in S11, and we got so much of it in the first two episodes of S12... it made me incredibly excited for this series of Who. It was such an abrupt and unexpected turnaround from S11, but I LOVED it. Bring it on!!

I had been wondering why it was a flip phone. Glad to have the answer to that one :)

So you got the timeless child 11x2 reference then

Why did it make it pointless? Because Gallifrey was saved once you think its now invincible? The Doctor said in the Doctor Falls that he will save people even if its hopeless or only if its for a little while because its the best he can do. The Doctor didn't destroy Gallifrey this go around either, and we don't know why it was destroyed so its not pointless.

This episode made The Day of The Doctor pointless

I have no name

I liked this two parter on the whole. Part one is a bit better than part two. Some interesting ideas to build on. 🤞 I'm with you, Chris you better do a good job! lol

Daryl

Side note: the interactions with your Dad are so wholesome.

Something I realized about this two-parter. If we had the same exact episodes, but S11 was a 12 episode season (along with the NY Special counted as separate like the CS are), "Spyfall" would have been the 2-part finale that the show usually has.

Disney15ish

I agree with the fact about The Master reverted back to evil after finding out the lie. One thing I should add is Some people point out that The Master told Missy she couldn't regenerate. But there were moments in that episode that showed Missy had vague memories as her time as The Master in that situation, so she could have prepared for her dying and a way to avoid it because she remembered doing it when she was him.

Here's a pointless bit of trivia - did you notice how the phone the Doctor gave to Ada and Noor was an old-style flip phone from around 15 years ago? That's because it was same phone Martha left on the TARDIS for 10. Weird bit of continuity, but it's there.

I think the new Master is Missy regenerated. I see no reason why Missy’s change of heart by the end of Twelve’s run wouldn’t default to “factory settings” with a new regeneration. Or maybe the new Master retained Missy’s conscience but reverted to evil once he discovered the founding fathers of Gallifrey lied about their origins. In any case, the Doctor’s personality has changed drastically from one regeneration to the next. I like Thirteen keeping secrets from her fam. Having three ordinary earthlings as companions enables her to keep them at an emotional distance. She doesn’t seem to like her own past is catching up with her – which of course is what Whovians are clamoring for. I think the point of regenerating into a woman was for the Doctor’s weary soul to start fresh.

Who has a history of building up the first part and never being able to fully deliver on the 2nd part when they have 2 parters. But good start to the season. I was so excited to see new episodes after this.

Was okay episode, kind of revisiting greatest hits though, what with being on the run from the tech guy like with Sound Of Drums and The Doctor retroactively saving the plane as with the whole thing with Amy and the Pandorica. Plus last episode we had the whole satnav thing from the Sontaran two parter back in season 4. Also felt like the companions could be absent from this and it really wouldn't impact the story that much. But that might just be me not warming to them that much. Definitely an improvement on last season, but still feels just a little off for me. As for Eccleston with Jodie, sounds like he might be up for it these days. 🙂 https://youtu.be/GvjPy6n5hKc
