STEVEN UNIVERSE 5X11 "Lars of the Stars" Full Length Reaction

Well yeah, it makes sense that it feels that the season is structured in mini-arcs... because it is, and not just Season 5, Cartoon Network started to release new episodes of the show in "Steven Bomb" format ever since the start of Season 2... so the Crewniverse became really good at honing that kind of format over the years.

Fun Fact: This entire episode is a HUGE reference a 70's Anime called "Space Pirate Captain Harlock", it takes no more than seeing Lars' new outfit to see that it's pretty much the same as the outfit of the aforementioned Captain Harlock. Rebecca Sugar seems to be a Big Fan of anime, so far we've had 3 whole episodes themed after it... "Beach City Drift" and "Kiki's Pizza Delivery Service" in Season 3 And now "Lars of the Stars" in Season 5. Another Fun Fact: Emerald was voiced by Jinkx Monsoon herself, a very popular and renowned Drag Queen. And talking of Emerald... this is the first time we see........ well..... an Emerald! and if my memory is not failing me... im pretty sure it was confirmed that Emeralds are one of the highest ranking Gems in the Homeworld Hierarchy, even higher than Sapphires who are aristocrats.

I quite like that Lars had a slip in this episode- I think it shows A) just how far he's already grown from his old self, by having these two sides of himself juxtaposed in this way, and B) that personal growth isn't always a linear line. Sometimes it ebbs and flows. Sometimes you have another big crash before you can rise again. He's still got a long journey ahead of him, and old wounds and old habits don't heal and change overnight. But YES, this episode is such a banger. It genuinely feels like this sort of environment is where Lars always belonged, even if he never knew it all those years he spent growing up on Earth. Kinda sucks that it took dying to bring him to this place, but I digress, ahahah. He seems so in his element here. I also am a big fan of Padparadscha's lil gimmick- not only do I find it very cute, but there's even moments where it shows intense utility. In this episode we see that when she's able to provide more context on Emerald's actions by saying she missed on purpose. Thus, sometimes she may be able to help others see a different angle of a situation, which I think is cool.
