2025-01-01 19:48:25 +0000 UTCThe Shell is such an AMAZING EPISODE!! From the drama, the set pieces, animation, lighting, and the moments throughout make this nearly a perfect episode imo. I think something underappreciated about this episode is a little bit of growth coming from Gumball. Gumball is usually cowardly and tries to get out of situations in crafty ways but I love the straightforward approach he takes in encouraging Penny to be herself. I especially love that moment between Gumball and Patrick as we see him stand up for her because of his genuine affection toward her. What I especially love about this episode has to be Penny's new design! I love this metaphorical idea that Penny was always designed to be the love interest that Gumball would always try to go after. And I like to think that Penny breaking out of her shell marks a tremendous change, literally and metaphorically, transforming her character into something new and beautiful. I also love the idea that she is a shapeshifter who works based on her emotions. This episode was pretty funny too, TAWOG just manages to nail it. I especially liked the joke when Gumball crashed into the Banana's house, Gumball saw Barbara paint an image of him stumbling upon Joe's dad in the bath, and then, in the next scene, what was depicted in the painting actually happened. Pretty interesting stuff.
