ONE PIECE EP 235 "Quarrel in the Moonlight! The Pirate Ship Trembles in Sadness!" Full Length Reaction

Comments

Yeah instantly I was like Luffy is giving him this information in the worst way haha

mikeyventure

Ah, my bad then lol, I haven't finished the reaction yet... probably should have before commenting...

heck

Usopp's reaction to this situation not only makes sense because the Merry was a gift from Kaya and Merry (the person), and not just because he is the one who has spent the most time patching the Merry up throughout their journeys..... It makes sense because Usopp for a long time now has been feeling very inferior to every other member of the Crew. everyone else has a solid reason why they are on the ship... Luffy is the Captain. Sanji is the Cook (plus he's very strong) Zoro and Robin are incredibly strong and therefore act as the "protectors" (Robin's Archeology skills are a nice plus). Nami is the Navigator and Chopper is the Doctor. Usopp is the only one without a clear role in the Crew and because of it he feels like he's not as necessary as everybody else. in his Mind the only thing that justified his place on the Crew was Merry herself due to him being so dedicated to repairing her. But Luffy just said that they're gonna get a new Ship in the most casual way... and that obviously threw Usopp for a loop. The reason he's lashing out so much is because he's thinking... "If Luffy can just decide to abandon Merry so easily, then where does that leave me? how long until he decides im no longer useful too?". And him getting mugged by the Franky Family aggravated even more his feeling of inferiority of course. But then Luffy made everything 100 times worse by lashing out too and almost yelling that if Usopp doesn't like it he can just leave. It was good that Sanji kicked him when he did, but still... the damage was already done. It's obvious that Luffy didn't meant to say that... but taking into account that he's also hurting for Merry's situation it makes sense that he cannot properly communicate right now. Luffy is often praised as the Anime Protagonist with the most Emotional Intelligence, but here he failed to realize what Usopp was truly going through... and because of that now the whole crew is suffering. This whole section of the Arc is Masterfully written, and it's one of the biggest reasons why Water 7 is so beloved.

Now you can watch opening 5 next time, since the most heavy spoilers part of the opening was was Luffy vs Usopp.

Krolliox

I did catch it. After the episode is over I talk a bit about it

mikeyventure

Also, I'm not sure you read the subtitles fast enough, but before Sanji kicked him Luffy said "Then why don't you get off this-".

heck

I hope you get to keep watching soon! One piece fans say this a lot, but this is where the story really begins 😆 Better mentally prepare for the amazingness!

Yeah that’s one thing I have noticed now that I have been rewatching the show and watching react content. There’s a lot of little subtleties in the story that you don’t think about until you’re either looking for them or someone points them out. It’s really great writing

Scritoon

I’m so annoyed I had to stop recording, so I haven’t seen the next few episodes yet

mikeyventure

Yeah I love how no one is really in the wrong here. And Luffy having to be a real captain and make the tough decisions, and as expected not everyone is going to love his decisions

mikeyventure

You know that’s so true! Now that you said that about Usopp

mikeyventure

I’m so upset because I had to stop recording after this episode 😭

mikeyventure

So it begins....

This arc is so good. And I agree Water 7 is a nice change of pace from the previous arcs. While we have dealt with a lot of serious topics throughout the show, it has still always been this happy show about pirates having fun adventures. Seeing this level of tension really helps flesh out the world and remind us of a lot of the stakes. And I agree things have been going a little too smoothly as far as crew relationships are concerned. And while at the surface Luffy vs. Usopp might seem strange since they have been such great friends up until this point. But Luffy vs. Usopp also makes the most sense for a confrontation. Because unlike the rest of the crew Usopp is still the only straw hat who hasn't fully acknowledged Luffy as Captain. He's always been "Captain Usopp" and is always the most argumentative when it comes to major decisions. Which I always found was a subtle thing that can be missed until the confrontation forces an evaluation of their past relationships. Since you are reuploading past videos I definitely recommend keeping an eye out for the subtle tension in their relationship that obviously comes to a head this arc.

Scritoon

So you're already seeing one of the big reasons this arc is so highly-regarded. After hundreds of episodes of this crew facing various pirates, marines, and other dangers, we're finally seeing some serious internal conflict that goes far beyond the beef between Zoro and Sanji. No matter how many times they fought with each other, you never believed it would ever go as far as this. And from Usopp of all people too. Man is really having to come to terms with himself here. So is Luffy, being forced to make a decision like that when he initially had pretty much the same reaction.

In my opinion, this and next episode are the peak of one piece. Like just in general. So good
