So you don’t think 13 new people introduced in one chapter is overkill? Readers don’t won’t to have to use a glossary to read a story. When a new school year starts in real life it takes people time to memorize people’s names. When you give this many names people will brain dump to keep from forgetting the important people. Think of any book chapter or tv episode that has ever tried to introduce an entire classroom or cast in this manner. I enjoy your story and I only wish to help so I hope I don’t rub you the wrong way on this. Just trust me when I say and professional editor would greatly reduce this chapter.

2018-08-15 04:21:01 +0000 UTCNah, I keep a very careful glossary. Sorry you didn't like it, but it's where my brain went and I'm not going to change my style. I write what comes. I have no idea if they'll be important or not, but they will be recurring. Real life is messy and has a lot of people, and small classes like this bond. I'm not going to cut down on the people just because it's hard to keep track. That is life. If she has to ask who they are again, that's normal.

2018-08-15 03:51:27 +0000 UTCSo... I feel like I can sum up this chapter in five small paragraphs. We went thru almost 14 introductions to characters I doubt will have much impact on the story. If so then mention that character and sum up the rest of the characters intro as a group. If all these characters are important then that is a whole other issue of overburdening readers to remember so many people. I fear even you may lose track.
